Republic at War

Mod review

It's truly one of the best mods I played for EaW/FoC and the team did get much more out of the system than the original game did despite some shortcomings which is why I initially gave it a 7/10.

The galaxy itself is more close to "canon" than any other Star Wars game before including the actual placements of the Republic and CIS-worlds (The Republic has the bigger territory and bigger economy, but the CIS has greater military starting strength and faster production).

All units from the small Vulture droid or V-Wing over the Acclamator/Munificent up to the Lucrehulk or Venator look absolutely gorgeous like if right taken out of the Clone Wars TV series and the audio is top-notch with famous gems like "Eat laser clankers" or "Roger Roger"
Seeing a Venator "fire all batteries" or a Lucrehulk sluggishly turning to rain down hell on a few unlucky Acclamators can certainly induce fanboy vibes.

The things that keep it from full 10/10 are right now truly the sometimes abysmal lag in GC and certain balance issues.
Right now both in Skirmish and GC playing as the CIS comes over as magnitudes easier than the Republic especially when counting the improved AI, which seems to be rooted more in several Republic units being too weak either in weapons and/or armor rather than the CIS units being too powerful (it's within "canon" for example that a Lucrehulk is equal to about three Venator Star Destroyers).
Seeing the latest news updates though it seems that these issues are thoroughly addressed by the next version, which gets the rating up to 8/10 in my eyes because the team takes heed of critique and aims to improve. ;)
