Unfortunately, the video was from V3.0... The download is of V4.0, which fixed a lot of the issues you mentioned. We're also internally testing V4.2 right now, check it out: Innomenpro.com (You need to make an account at our forum to download the update)

It's pretty similar to Super Robot Wars. We're going to release a gameplay video pretty soon! That should answer all your questions. :D

The battles take place in space, and you command your mothership (the Sunrider) and a squadron of mechs which are piloted by your party members. There will not be any land or character-to-character battles, just a lot of large scale clashes between space navies armed with space ships and mechs.

Sunrider will be released under a very liberal license, where you can modify all assets and change the code as much as you want, so long as you don't sell it for money. So the people with the technical know-how are very welcome to mod and localize Sunrider.

The battles are fully playable, and are like tactical RPGs. We're hoping to have something to show for the battle segments soon.

The story is highly non-linear. You could say it's a lot like Mass Effect, in that there are many, many dialogue choices.
