Penumbra: Necrologue

Mod review may contain spoilers

This one is surely one of the best mods I have ever played. It's really a great way to end the Penumbra series. It's pretty loyal to the original games, but at the same time it has a lot of new features, like new enemies, new interesting puzzles and secrets.

This mod really managed to bring back the lonely, obscure, and intriguing Penumbra atmosphere from the previous games. Thanks to the amazing voice acting (Clarence in particular), the mapping (The Tuurngait tomb as Philip said was absolutely breathtaking), the scares (almost shat my pants twice), and the cool new stuff, Penumbra: Necrologue is really a masterpiece.

But now to the bad stuff, because it's not a 10/10 review. Many people thought the puzzles were annoying but I don't think the problem are the puzzles within themselves. Sure, some of them weren't that easy but at the end, the idea of a puzzle is for it to be hard yet amusing to solve at the same time, and I thought the mod accomplished that perfectly. I think the problem was finding some things or to know where to go. For example when you first step into the unfinished part of the facility there is a pair of white doors that open with a switch, let me tell you I had some problems finding that switch because it was behind a big metal plate, and I had to get really close to it to see the hand and actually know I was capable of moving it. Then when you go into the wine storage part where the spiders are, it was pretty dark in there and it took me a lot of time to figure out there was another hatch that led you to another room so you could get the blue artifact and continue with the game.

Right after using the blue artifact in the mines, when the Dog comes back for some fun. Let me tell you this was the most annoying part of the game for me. Not because of the Dog but because of the way the Dog wandered across the mine, it would literally go where your character is at the moment and start camping you (the dog wandered close to your location and he never went away). Since I didn't have the hint for the code (the one you wipe off the table) I had to go look for it but the Dog was there waiting for me outside TT_TT (he killed me 5 times). There is no need for the Dog to go look for you, trust me, once I found an infected four times while trying to lose him and he wasn't looking for me.

But putting those details aside, I think the mod was completely amazing and I had tons of fun playing it. Great Job!!
