I think it is still a working mechanic. If the heavy character brings one of the heavier weapons as his secondary than he effectively becomes a sentry at times. Since there are several times in this game when sentries are very effective, then I think people will still utilize the heavy character.

When fighting Tyranids you want horde-killing weaponry. Nobody is better for that than the Salamanders. If you bring Vulkan along in your TT army than Salamanders can churn out some serious flame damage and still have twin-linked multi-meltas and master-crafted thunder hammers for the larger 'nids. I think the Salamanders are ideally suited to fight a Tyranid force.

For a game like this it is really just a matter of aesthetics, so its not a big deal. But I'm assuming most people want to see their favorite chapter included because several chapters have their own rulebooks and therefore have unique abilities and characteristics.

Since there are 8 different characters, would it be possible to actually make 8 different classes? This would allow you to split up the marines even more to better fit 40k and have more distinct characters.

I know thats only 7 but I was thinking maybe there could be some kind of unlockable Veteran class, or if thats not possible a Scout Marine would work too. I already have class-abilities and armaments thought up so if you would like more info just let me know.
