On the topic of interesting uniques......

Is there a way to manipulate ethereal durability so that an item is almost instantly destroyed?

If there is, it would be cool to create something like a weapon with the ability to hit an enemy with a pile of curses and negative status effects but then breaks on the first hit making it effectively a single use item.

I have a question about the 'den of evil' mechanics and 'countess' mechanics. Could you combine the 2 and create a side area where you can't open a reward chest unless you kill everything in that area?

I am pretty sure this is a plugy issue but I found an interesting exploit. If you pause the game and just leave it while in Hell difficulty it appears that plugy will continue to simulate SOJ sales and allow you to always get Uber Diablo to spawn when you unpause (as long as you leave the game paused long enough). I have done this accidentally twice now.

Ahh I see. Perhaps once the project matures a bit more a few of these options could be moved to their own in-game menu, like the ones you have in the existing launcher. Setting preferred resolution there would be cool as well.

BTW, I tried 2560X1600 (resolution on this older system) and holy damn does that make the game harder. You get absolutely swarmed from every direction.

Graphics are sorted, yes.

I have an odd issue in 3.7. When I save and then exit I get the "something went wrong" sound and the windows busy cursor and the D2 closes. When I reopen all of my maps are reset.

Barb is a lot of fun to play. Once I get through Hell I will likely start a fresh character to get the full experience with all of the changes you have implemented.

I can replicate this 100% of the time. This is on an existing 3.6.X game upgraded to 3.7.

Have you given any thought to changing light mechanics to make light radius meaningful in some way?

Also did you see my post about keys in a previous build? I'd like to see those become important in same way.

In general I like some of the things you have done to make more of the original game more important.

I had an idea to make keys a more important part of the game and to further increase the viability of clearing optional areas.

1. keys no longer available at shops
2. keys can only drop from optional area bosses
3. locked super chests can only be found in optional areas
4. loot from locked super chests is always good (good could be defined any way you see fit)

I am glad you did that, keeps level 99 players from making all god tier equipment out of anything.

I have a question about enhancing equipment and then upgrading the quality. If I enhance an exceptional piece of equipment and then upgrade it to elite, will the increased level requirement carry over or get reset by the quality upgrade?

Going to play with frenzy a bit longer, going to try to finish Hell.

There are D2 mechanics that cause failed unique drops, I wonder if that same mechanic sometimes causes a failed unique jewel.

I finally got a solid unique jewel for the Barb, +3 shout +10 all attributes.

I have been playing around with the recipients to improve equipment. When combining enhance recipes, add sockets and then crafted rare jewels you can make some really top notch equipment.

I have a question about enhancing equipment and the increased level requirement that comes with this. I don't want to ruin any of my good gear so I have not tried but does the level requirement cap at 99? If it does cap at 99 does that mean that a level 99 character can max out modifications without any penalty?

Minor bug in jewel crafting. 3 rares sometimes make a new rare instead of a unique. Seems to be a very rare bug but I have seen it twice.

With the changes made my merc is surviving Hell a bit better. The only thing that is causing problem is getting super poisoned in Hell. Even with massively jacked up regen you wont last long.

I am talking about assigning skill points to 20 and then adding 10 more from equipment, I think you can reach that far with the right combination. It would be a cool end game buff to see a higher jump if you really push a skill.

For example getting a skill to 30 would have the same jump as if you got it to 33.

I don't use war cry, just not a very Barbarian feeling skill. In general the Barbarian always felt like they merged a crummy fighter with a support class character, almost like they wanted you to hate using him.

I totally get what you are saying BTW. I understand that you are trying to make the Barbarian as is better and it is a very hard task as yelling, jumping and buffing the party isn't what a Barbarian should have been doing in the original game.

Any chance we could get some late game buffs to chase?

Max level giving +3 skill points and + 15 stat points would be a cool final bonus.

Maybe at level 30 skills could give a better bonus making maxing and stacking + to all skills more rewarding.

I have always been a big fan of combining Barb with Rogue merc, your build makes them a much more viable combo. Having a rogue rain down cold and poison makes mobs a lot easier to tank. Let me get a screen shot of the bow my merc has, pretty insane even in Hell.

Rolling 6 on the first try was pretty clutch although 4 or more would be fine. I'll check out the build tonight.

Rogue has massive damage bow, got crazy lucky on sockets. Even in Hell isn't bad on the attack side.

Armor and helmet is loads of + to life and + to dex. She does not get hit by much in nightmare (other than instantly dying to hydras) but in hell there is nothing I can do to keep her from getting hit so her HP is the only thing keeping her alive and it just isn't enough.

Below mercenary AI was mentioned and I know what a pain dealing with that would be from the code side. Is there anything like an exposed API for this behavior mechanics or is it all hard coded? The rogue mercenary is at her best when she stays behind me firing multishot at the crowd I am tanking. She is at her worst when she is running around in the middle of the crowd and only occasionally stopping to fire.

Any chance we can get something like a cure negative status potion? I would have these provide temporary immunity after cure that get less with game difficulty for example in normal you get 5 seconds of immunity but in Hell its like 1.5 seconds.

I had an idea to replace the 3 useless Barb skills in the 'find' tree. All 3 would be shout auras. The 3 skills would be buff elemental melee damage, buff elemental projectile damage and strike lowers res. The top 2 would take your + to elemental damage from equipment and increase it. The 3rd one would lower the elemental resistance to anything you strike.

I have also been thinking about giving mercenaries 1 additional skill based on the player class you have. For example mercenaries could pick up mana potions for the sorceress, bolts/arrows/javelins for the Amazon, potions for the barbarian.....Something to make them more useful for your specific class.

In general, mercenaries do not have the HP for hell. I have my rouge with multishot and decent gear and she can contribute to killing/poisoning but 1 or 2 hits and she is dead. I tried Hell a little but all I and doing is resurrecting her constantly.

Charms seem to drop differently now since I updated. I am not getting them very often and the ones I am getting kind of suck. All of the ones I from an earlier build are pretty awesome and I have not found anything better to replace them. Has this been changed? It seems to have gone from too frequent to not frequent enough.

I might be getting seriously unlucky but with all of my 3 rare -> 1 unique jewel crafting I have done I have received exactly 2 Barbarian skill jewels ever. The odds should be 1/7 but it seems way lower. Maybe I am just unlucky.

I had an idea for uber rewards. Have reagents drop for special recipes like convert a grand charm into a small charm (same affixes) or combine 3 charms into 1 with the combined affixes of all 3. This would make it worth killing top bosses more than once worth it.

What about a recipe that lets your morph 3 magic charms into 1 rare for example 3 small magic charms become 1 small rare charm, just like what you did with jewels.

Using a barb I have one status effect + elemental damage hand and one damage hand, using axes at the moment but might switch for bashing weapons for free extra damage to undead.

Life steal is mandatory, put the skull in my belt and then extra damage in both boots and gloves. Helmet and armor is + to life and rings + amulets are heavy on maximum damage.

Collect charms that do damage of any kind but prioritize physical damage over elemental as physical damage with Barb gets a massive boost.

This carried me through Normal.

In nightmare I had to add sockets to uniques and then add my gems/jewels to stand a chance but I am still surviving.

Council on nightmare absolutely destroys the Barb, the jump is difficulty is huge and your merc will be instantly vaporized so do not count on them. Draw them off one at a time and fight them one on one. If you rush them you will not survive the hydras.

Oh yeah, that is her, faster than holy hell. I have to trick her into a corner and then lay into her with frenzy.

My equipment is very upgraded, can face tank a lot, not dying much at all unless I forget to re-shout.

Ahhhh, super lifesteal, that makes sense, like they get a few hits in and are back to 100%

I think I am at the point where I will need some actual prevent monster heal instead of just poison. I will look through my unique mountain, see what I have.

Perfect emerald is always equipped both in one Barb weapon and with Merc (I use rogue to spread poison and cold). Rogue with faster attack, spread and poison + cold really is a fantastic way to deal with mobs. I have + damage to undead in there as well, mobs of skeletons go down in an instant.

Even with 80% fire res (have +5 max) the hydras shred me and 1 or 2 shot merc no matter what resistance and health they have. Literally instant death hydras spawn.

Babr is a lot of fun but I still never use the oddball skills at all. I never use any of the 'find' tree, wish they could be replaced with something like an AOE attack.

I have found that up to nightmare I using powerful rare rings + amulets in combination with upgraded uniques + sockets + rare jewels makes me so damn strong that I can face tank just about anything. Rare charms as well, holy hell those are strong. I wont be playing with runewords or sets until Hell,pretty sure I wont be able to avoid them anymore.

I'll be grabbing the update and playing some more today.

Playing through nightmare with a Barb I ground all the way up to 72 and can easily handle the ancients without touching a potion and while keeping my merc alive. This same merc is instantly vaporized by the council and unless I pick them off one at a time I burn through a mountain of potions killing them. In nightmare the council is by far the hardest part I have faced and it is not even close.

I have been exploiting the hell out of upgrading, socketing and crafting rare jewels so my equipment is insanely good. Other than the council nothing in nightmare has been much of a challenge.

I have run into a few of those green text bosses and they take forever to grind them to 0 but they also can't kill me with my current Barb.

I don't remember the name but I ran into a green text champion with healing so powerful that I could only occasionally get them to 50%. Around there their health would snap back to 100%. They could not kill me either but I did have to run away from them.

The green text boss you face at the first way point in nightmare (archer) cannot be killed unless you force them into a corner. If you cannot do this their speed is so insane that you cannot keep damage ahead of their healing.

I wanted to see if the +1 socket to rare works for rings and amulets and it does. You must have removed the restriction from jewelry. I have not tried on a unique yet but I bet that does not work since in the original game the +1 socket recipe only works on rares.

Its a giant PITA finding a Stone of Jordan for this but it does work without needing to burn a socket quest.

Is there a recipe for adding a socket to rings and amulets? I was able to use the socket quest to do this (on both and rare) so I know it works.

I like the idea of cubing in general and putting special reagents as potential drops in optional areas will encourage exploration.

Is there a "white wash" recipe yet (turns equipment into a base white item)? The only thing I am having any issue with currently is finding good white equipment. It would be cool if I could take a piece of equipment and no matter how it is modified convert it back to white. You could put the key ingredient to this recipe as a random drop from 'end of optional areas' chests.

I know this suggestion is a pain to code but I had an idea to address one of my other long standing complaints about runewords. If you are using an effect type runeword the equipment you put it in does not really matter. It would be cool if runeword buffs actually got better the higher level the equipment was. For example putting a 4 rune runeword into a superior sacred armor would enhance the runeword buffs.

Related to the above idea I would change ethereal equipment into a level far above superior both in terms of base buffs and buffs to things like unique/rare/crafted/set/runewords... affixes. To balance this I would have ethereal equipment lose durability when worn automatically, like reverse repair. The idea would be for ethereal equipment to be short lived boss smashing gear that you can't use without automatically losing durability.

All in all I love the idea of taking the parts of D2 that were never really expanded on in the original game and making them a much more critical.

I like what you are doing with expanded rewards for exploring (3 chests instead of 1 at the end of cave areas) but maybe you could take it further by adding reagents for the cube that can only be found in those chests.

One of my complaints about D2 was always just how much of he game you could ignore without consequence. I like the idea of things that cannot be done without exploration.
