I don't think you'll hear anything solid until after their fight with the TE... until that's over and done with, I don't think we'll hear much from WB. They're going to be focusing their attention on the court case. But once they lose to the TE, they won't have much to throw at us.

This looks incredible! ROII is the perfect game for this mod too.

I think I was misunderstood with this... I support PJ and I know for a fact he had nothing to do with WB doing this. I wasn't accusing him of sending the C&D by any means, I was just saying that he has unknowingly helped merp, whether he knows about it or not.

I think the release of The Hobbit has drawn much more needed attention to merp. Thank you unwitting Peter Jackson!

I've thought that from the start, if no money is involved in this project, how can WB sue? Damages to their profits? Since there's no way they can prove it, I agree with it just being scare tactics. Big companies are infamous for bullying small scale ones like this without any real legal reasoning... but still, it is a decision for the merp team to make as it's their ***** on the line :P

I see no reason to penalise PJ, he put a lot of effort into making his middle-earth a reality, so in that respect he has a lot in common with merp... its the games that we are primarily boycotting because they are a blatant money grabbing scheme from WB with no effort involved

Is there no way to strike a deal with WB? I mean, if they still persist with the c&d, maybe they could license merp as a game- in association with Bethesda or something? I know it's one hell of a long shot, but I would be more than happy to pay full price for merp...

Right, I watched the Hobbit today... It was F****** brilliant. BUT FEAR NOT! I gave WB no money at all :D I paid for another film and then went into the screen that was showing the Hobbit :P

It's definitely looking up for merp now, but the fight isn't anywhere near over yet... and being in the top 100 of 2012 can only help merp gain momentum!

I don't know about everyone else, but I never lost hope in this project. It looked hopeless for merp at one point and I was starting to really doubt my reasoning for continuing to support merp because of it... but I kept reminding myself of what a hobbit once said: " Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something."

Well really, if the Tolkien Estate takes WB to court and it is ruled that WB do not hold any rights over non-tangible digital media.. the C&D would surely be void as they wouldn't have held the rights to issue it in the first place. There is light at the end of the tunnel :P

I'd just like to warn you guys - I'm sure you've heard about MERP and WB and I'd hate to see this mod get a C&D too, I really want to see both this and MERP to go ahead. I'm just saying, tread carefully... The last thing anyone wants to see is this up and coming masterpiece closed down!

If this does all end up in court (which would be preferably avoided), I wonder what the actual cost would be... A lot I suppose, but think - if those 17,000 + petitioners donated towards a court case, it may stand up? Just a suggestion.. hopefully it won't come to that though
