S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: CoM

Mod review

Having played Misery 2.0 and Call of Chernobyl both on their own, I must say... this is an absolutely perfect meshing of the two. The CoC game mechanics are very fun, while Misery is incredibly atmospheric and chilling, like no matter how long I sit in the sun I can never get warm while playing it. However, both on their own have downsides - CoC still felt like a game in a lot of ways, while Misery is, let's face it here, just way too god damn hard most of the time unless you get extremely lucky (which you won't). But this addon... wow. It's got all the atmosphere and creepiness while still being fun, and it's exactly hard enough without being stupidly impossible. And actually with it being slightly less hard than the original Misery, I feel like it's a bit more realistic that way, because come on, guys, how would that stalker have lived long enough to get that gear and then when I loot him he has some soaked underwear and a sausage? But I still get that jolt of fear whenever I hear a mutant growling or someone shooting and can't see them yet, because I'm not just death incarnate like I am in the original CoC. I can lose, I can run out of ammo, I can starve, and it does take effort not to, but I have it figured out now and I know what I'm doing, and that's how I feel like it really would be to be a stalker. And the new map of Buryakivka - hot damn, the CoC modders knew what they're doing! That place is so cool and so deadly, a map I'm not familiar with but it's just awesome to explore those vehicles and find six grenades inside an APC at random. Just look out for chimeras... All in all, I have to say this is my all-time favorite S.T.A.L.K.E.R. enhancement, CoM. All the maps (plus 1), all the factions, and even though your *** can get kicked there's no reason you can't kick some *** right back, too. Highly recommend for veteran stalkers looking to get that "first time in the Zone" feeling all over again, because I sure as hell did!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Lost Alpha

Mod review

First off, I just want say-all this "downer" reviews (going 5/10 or less) is written by people who not able to appreciate hard work of the developers. So, just ignore them.

After waiting for plenty long time for this mod, I actually not able to install it for 1 YEAR due to my laptop's stupidness. But now, I see, it worth the wait. By then I am able to install it with 1.0003 patch, which fix many of the major bugs (so far I not encounter anything serious, good work guys!). On my new desktop, with good graphics card, game looks AMAZING while still be loyal to SoC's atmosphere. I seen many YouTube video that shows us those old builds with locations, and this game maps loyal to that, too. All in all (aside from amusing bugs like Yantar stalker technician who is stuck inside of his door) game looks fantastic.

Although action sometimes stretched out (I get to this later), gameplay-quite interesting. Old Build 2205 has Monolithers at factory in Dark Valley, and the devs bring back this interesting feature. Besides this, also plenty of creepy underground things for explore, like "old X18 entrance" which made entirely from their imaginings. Also clever things like trader in Forgotten level so greedy for money, he hires player for destroying fuel in heavy-population merc camp just to control supply of this resource. This I think, it is a realistic represent of how people can really think of things.

Here is why, I think, 9/10 instead 10/10: EVERYTHING SO FAR AWAY. I like new maps, they big and huge detail put into them. But often player has to travel across 2-3 maps at a time to reach some objective, then quickly run back where they came from for next step. I think, this could be improved, by expanding tasks-when crossing through of these multiple maps, have new missions/steps added, like how in vanilla game, when coming to Agroprom, stalker has you help other stalkers on the way to be saving Mole.

Other thing I think makes this 9/10. That the cutscenes, they not so great sometimes. Voice acting could be better, and animations a little more smooth, but still, props to dev team, that they make all this in just their spare time. Exceptions, which I find enjoyable, Strelok's voice actor, he is quite good, and above-mention cutscenes, where in Army Warehouses NPC Contact come screeching up in a car to the player. Mission with Contact and mutant horde to destroy mercs is excellent, in my opinions, very fast-paced and well composed.

Thank you, for reading my humble review. Don't listen to jerks who say this not a good game. This, it is a very good game, see for yourself and you know what I talking about. Many those reviews written when game was released, not finished too much yet. It much better now.
