Would it be fine with you to release the stuff with an open source licence (like gpl, cc, artistic..., I do not mean freeware), I ask that because I'm an "opensource freak" and I really prefer working with open stuff, just like OpenArena or Nexuiz for example. (credit would be given as a matter of course)

Would you mind if the project then takes another direction and doesn't strictly aims for MatrixQ3 as you imagined it? Since that will probably happen when some other people than you start doing something with the stuff you have?

MIght not be a nice option, but if it is improbable that this thing will ever revive again, you could still release all stuff so others could continue (or use the stuff in other ways). An open license would be cool (public domain, gpl, bsd and cc are the most famous). That way the stuff would for sure not be lost.

But hey, will you release it open source? Will there be a standalone version (now that the Quake source is open?) Will you kick out another beta to attract some helping hands?

PS:What about a nice Matrix Quake Website?

Sorry for double posting, but I have two questions:
Will this mod be open/released under the gpl? (when it uses the gpl quake 3 code it has to be gpl too, right?)
Do you intend to make this mod a standalone game?

The very old 2.4 beta is still great. Perhaps you should kick out another beta to get some attention, then there will surely be some coder to join your team. Sadly I have no experience in 3d programming myself. Good luck. This mod is GREAT.
