The game is really immense and gives a lot of freedom. Even though it's not bug-free due to the game being early-access, the developers do a great job in keeping it playable and enjoyable at all times. also, there's constantly new content being added which adds to the continued enjoyability of the game. they did a good job in listening to the community, a lot of things that were suggested by the community like oxygen/pressure, planets, programmable blocks and many more things are now in the game, even though some of them were not originally planned to be in the game. there are a lot of things to do in multiplayer and singleplayer alike (though multiplayer is not perfectly stable yet; at least from what i've heard. i never have played on any big servers, i always just play singleplayer or with one or two friends). most importantly, it's probably the first building/sandbox/survival game where the blocks were not only destructable but also deformed on collision/explosion in a pretty realistic way.
