Limbo

Game review

I don't think I could really do this great game justice yet - perhaps I should replay it sometime for that.

However, I did want to ask: Am I the only one who found this game too long for its own good? It started out very strong (in particular the spider, but also the other children, the gears and the false ending), but it just went on and on at times for seemingly no reason. Were those anti gravity boxes really necessary? I felt it lost some of its value at that point...

Also, I guess I am also the only one who isn't a fan of the ending? I'm still not sure what they were going for there, but it felt anti-climactic.

Alright, complaints aside, this is a really good game and if you like games with a good atmosphere: play it. The shock horror elements at the start are incredibly well done too. Definitely recommended, but I just felt I needed to balance out what others had said...

Super Crate Box

Game review

Super Crate Box is a fun game in which you can put a surprising amount of hours, simply due to its difficulty. With only 3 stages, 3 game modes and 6 kinds of enemies (3 of which are simply faster versions of the first three), one wouldn't expect so much replay-ability. However, one should keep in mind the power of a dozen different weapons.

The goal of the game is to grab a new weapon as quickly as possible, without dying. One touch by an enemy and you're gone. This results in a very varied experience, as every weapon needs its own strategy. You never know what you'll end up with next, be it a bazooka, katana or landmine.

What is interesting is how well balanced these weapons are. Though there might be a few favorites (among which the aforementioned bazooka), none of the weapons ever feel useless. Because of this, it is a joy to keep playing and get some experience with each weapon.

The second two game modes, however, are rather chaotic. Once unlocked, you'll find yourself dying as much as in Meat Boy. This game is hard, and to unlock everything, you'll have to get good and get lucky.

A blast to play... But nevertheless a really tiny game. Besides weaponry, it is lacking variation. To say that that is a bad thing though...

Super Crate Box isn't a masterpiece, but it is exactly what it needs to be: A small, quick, fun game to play when you haven't really got anything to do, such as when sitting in a train or waiting for class to start. It's fun! That's it.

Tiny Dangerous Dungeons

Game review

One of the better browser games out there. The level design is incredibly well done and the artstyle is lovely. The game is memorable all around and is appropriate for all ages.

Due to a lack of visual diverseness, one could feel like they're lost within what seems like a maze. In actuality, due to the clever level-design, it always seems easy to go exactly where you need to go, even at the end of the game, when you need to collect a key at the other side of the dungeon.

Dying is something you will be doing a lot, but there are save/health statues all over the dungeon. Basically, at the end of every obstacle course, there will be a checkpoint. However, lateron in the game, these will become somewhat more scarce as the game gets harder. Nevertheless, the game never feels unfair.

The music is also really nice, by the way, so I'd suggest you keep it on as you're playing!

Lastly, the secrets the game contains, though few, are a joy to find and very useful at the very end of the game.

There are little flaws with this game, but it keeps you longing for more. After all, it is just a short browser game.
