The model has been unwrapped!
You can see how many repeating elements that there are now that the model has been stripped of most of them (the 'wires' have slight variations in length because they all bend slightly differently).

I will rebuild the model, and then after that do an ambient occlusion map.
After that I will either start the height map or a diffuse colour block out.
