S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Last Day

Mod review

Considering the engine this game is working on and how infamously buggy the S.T.A.L.K.E.R franchise is, this game is an absolutely masterpiece of modding.
Taking the huge open world sandbox of Call of Chernobyl - and the sudden dropkick to the face survival experience of Call of Misery, Last Day takes things to new extremes by gathering all of the best mods available for CoC/CoM into one refined & relatively stable
package.

Revisit an Exclusion Zone like you've never seen before with the addition of the MLR mod, adding new game locations, new faction bases, new traders & much more.
Found a worn out sniper in relatively good condition, but don't have the money to buy a fresh one? Make use of a technician's vice to patch that thing up with the AWR addon, which will have you scrapping weapons down to parts just so you can find a decent condition trigger mechanism for that sniper of yours.

By far Last Day's biggest strength is it's variety of moment to moment gameplay. I had a hit job from Sidorovich to take care of a guy stationed at the bandit base in the Dark Valley.
Being the Free Stalker that I was, I knew that I had no chance of even getting close to the base without getting annihilated. So I was lucky enough to sneak up to a couple of Bandits resting by a campfire early in the morning. Using my PM Makarov, I put a bullet in each of their skulls before they could even respond. I managed to snag a badly damaged bandit overcoat, that while being about as bulletproof as a slice of ham gave me a brilliant idea on how to carry out my mission.
Using Strelocc's disguise system (downloaded separately from the Addon's section, I highly recommend it) I threw the coat on & infiltrated the base. I found the bastard I was after, but he was surrounded by around 4 other bandits, and I knew that I'd have to shoot & scoot if I wanted to go through with the hit. I took the shot, and in what seemed to be a matter of seconds I was out of the base's perimeter. I feel that if not for the stimulants in my system, I would've been a dead man (and they say cocaine is bad for you, huh...)

My personal favorite part of Last Day's gameplay is the downtime between the high octane moments, like when the sun starts to set & you make your way back to base for the night.
Relax after a long day hunting for artifacts by the campfire & watch the night sky as you chow down on a diet sausage & blast Pink Floyd's 'Hey You' out of your PDA's radio.
Waking up the next day you find that you're running out of both food & the money to buy more, so you grab your rusty AK & worn out MP5 with about 20 bullets between them & walk out headlong into the rising sun, forever searching for money & fame, so that maybe one day you can sit among the legends of the Zone, clad in an exoskeleton & with a stash so large it'd make Sidorovich go "********, you're lying"
