i assume that if they are renamed ghouls, they will be fast zombies in the same vein as "28 days later" or "left 4 dead"? Irregardless, looks like an awesome concept and i look forward to playing it (especially with hardcore mode on like you suggested, gives a real "survivor" feeling)
