Hi there, sorry I've only just seen your message.

"The requested operation requires elevation."

Now this is something I have never seen before in my life.. I mean, what operating system are you running?? Does it say elevation to whom? The CIA? :D

But seriously, have you worked it out yet? What antivirus do you run, have you set appropriate exceptions?

After a hiatus I guess (I been busy), I have got round to releasing Version 14, featuring the 4th NH campaign mission.. Honestly, I completed making 90% of the mission a while back, but never got round to finishing it off until recently.

Hope you all enjoy, no doubt the trolls will Really hate this mission (it includes some facts they will hate).

Hi there @tiberazure, thanks for the feedback. I only just saw your messages (above and below this), and shall attempt to answer both.

Per the one below, 1) the repair speed I've had to be extra cautious with for technical reasons, which is a long boring story, but the short version is it is to do with game stability / preventing likelihood of crashing.. Something that is hinted/warned about in one of the modding wiki's (ModENG?). I actually did test faster repairs, which led to instability. So I would consider the click repair on buildings as a 'basic' repair, which if necessary, should be augmented with the use of the variety of repair units in game, or alternatively, by using an engineer (after all, this is one of their primary uses).

2) Could you provide details of what unit(s) cause issues? I have not encountered any at my end through testing yet, could you let me know the unit, the map, the mode, etc.?

3) Yes, that is deliberate, and is for balancing purposes. It prevents spamming high-end units, and forces players to be more considerate on what to put available funds to.. Such as 2 expensive tanks, or 6 cheaper tanks. Choose wisely per the situation! That said, build times can be shortened by either constructing more appropriate factories, or special structures.

Per the message above; This seems to be far more serious, and a different case than below. I'm guessing either an installation issue (perhaps a file got corrupted?), or your system's antivirus has interfered, which has happened to me during initial setup.

I would recommend to reinstall, following all the provided instructions. Please also check the included guides, as well as for the Online and Offline launch. Hope this helps, and let me know?

Hi there IkhsanZaki, I have deliberately made it to be this way, to aim to be more realistic. After all; in real life, most shots fired in general, are misses. I would say that if you are used to the base game, or say another mod and you have just tried this one, it may just take a little getting used to.

The units in this mod will engage in more prolonged firefights, rather than the standard guaranteed hit & kill. This also results in varied results; no longer is a fight between one unit versus another, a guaranteed outcome. Hope that helps?

Greetings @kalidrone,

Yes, as per the documentation; when running directly via Ares the main menu screen is on top left of the screen. This is a compromise to do with the DDraw extension (I am not one of it's developers), which allows for full, wide-screen play.

But yes, you can also launch via CNCNet; check the supplied readme files in both the 'Online' and 'Offline' folders, in the main directory, they should help.

Hi there I just saw your message. Did you follow the tutorial video, or the full written instructions? I would assume something wasn't done correctly. If the problem persists, make sure that the base game is installed, as well as the YR expansion, and their respective official patches First; only then, should you add the mod, following the instructions.

Thanks for the feedback. I am constantly monitoring the balancing. I have for example in Version 13 nerfed the tesla trooper(s) further. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you for your kind words! Of course, I'm open to valid concerns. With each version, I try to consider the balancing, and this latest version was no exception (V-13). The air defences at the moment, R.F. air defence is the strongest (after all, much of their real-life A.D. equipment has no analogues in the world), however from testing I have found that once a base of any player (regardless of starting country) is Fully developed, then generally any air assault is highly risky, to the point where the attacking aircraft of Any faction face elimination.

I'm glad you've played for so long (though do bear in mind everything is good in moderation, so don't overdo it haha), but hopefully when playing various random skirmish games, you may notice that sometimes the NATO/Allied faction can cripple and destroy CSTO/Soviet bases with massive air attacks (and vice-versa). I've seen quite a few times for example how B-2 bombers annihilate the nuclear power stations, devastating entire bases.

I would recommend when playing as the Allied/NATO faction (well, any faction really), to prioritise multi-layered air defence. It can take much effort to make your base truly 'safe'.

Thanks for the suggestion!-I've actually thought a lot about including gore effects, but the main thing putting me off is concern of possible issues with lag/stability of the game (and of course, people's Operating Systems). As things stand, there are a few instances where the game is close to overload (at least on my crappy system).

That said, I will consider testing that out in the future, to see how much of an impact it has.

After a delay, mostly due to health, I'm pleased to announce the release of Version 13, featuring the new Horror Mode!

As always, feel free to check my extensive credits folder; where I have done everything to credit every resource source possible.

And a special thanks to supporters of the mod, and even the persistent trolls; actually my new favourite 1/10 rating comes from the guy who simply put "Stop ruin ravange"! Honestly, you'd think I keep people as prisoners locked in a basement all day, mercilessly forcing them to play my mod (and yet, the moment they get their luxurious 10-minutes of internet access a day (wtf XD), they use it to down-rate my mod).

Greetings! Thank you for the detail, as I can tell what is wrong immediately; you should Not be launching via ra2md.exe. This is the standard game launcher, whereas the mod is built around the Ares extension. Always pay attention to the instructions for installation (I highly recommend the folders labelled with New Horizons, installation, Online, and Offline etc.). They lay out what launchers to use. As per standard, the mod is downloaded for usage in 'Offline' mode, where you will always use the launcher 'RunAres.bat'. Once you have gotten comfortable using this, you can always try out the online launcher (read the instructions in the Online folder), where you will use the other appropriate launcher specified there.

Hope that helps!

Hahaha, well to be fair they're not 'new' (I made them some time ago now), but they are new ro being able to play via the online launcher. I hope you enjoy all the hidden regional names. To be honest, when I was making the maps I thought it would be great if people could eventually play them online, then they could discuss where they are, where they are going, eg. "I'm on the left testicle, need help at the base of the shaft!"

Wow, @TwistedModder, you have actually gained some respect from me. I genuinely thought you were one of those trolls that ***** on something no matter what, incapable of admitting any wrong, but you have proven me wrong! By all means, I don't mind genuine criticism (I actually welcome it), especially if it's constructive. I'm not the kind of person to hold a grudge and take things personal, so consider your apology accepted. :)

About any unneccesary RA2YR files; I genuinely am not sure which ones are necessary to include, and I don't include unneccesary ones on purpose. In an effort to avoid what you described, I made sure to delete the main game file in my uploads (the big one), since nobody can play/run the game without it; thereby logically (to me, anyway, I'm not perfect), I presume that only people who actually have the game can play this mod (as it will have that necessary large key file). I separately keep a folder for the 'release' version of the mod, separate from my main directory that includes all the files. So as not to clog the message section, would you be willing to DM me to point out the unneccesary files that I can cut?-I could even credit you for helping make the mod release files 'slimmer' (included in the mod release, I have a whole folder of randomly compiled credits to various people, for various things, there may even be a place for you!)

Thank you for explaining about the CNCNet Client, and providing a link!-I will definitely look into it. I may very well implement that change in time for the next release of the mod (due within the week). Yeah, sadly anybody can leave anything in the reviews section, regardless of what they say I don't get to respond. My personal favourite review was I think a 1-worded '"****.", don't know if it's still there (probably is).

Greetings @sharrisjunk14!

Thank you for your words of encouragement.

This is the only mod I have actively developed (for several years now, in my free time), and I do so as a 1-man army; implementing all changes myself. As such, I have no experience in the past of the 'proper' way to release/package a mod, and nobody has explained/hinted to me how; in fact your comment is as close as that has gotten (so thanks for reaching out with suggestions!).

I'm not so great with acronyms, what is DTA?-Sorry in advance if it's a simple answer. I followed tutorials online for implementing a CNCNet client so that the game/mod can be launched to play online with other people (which I have tested as working). The mod also makes use of Phobos (and of course Ares), but do you have a link to any further information/explanation on what/how of implementing 'standalone' client? -Feel free to DM me so as not to clog the general chat with technical discussions.

Regarding tesla, prism, and laser weapons accuracy: changes are coming in the newest version of the mod (Version 12B-2), which will balance out this to an extent. Partially thanks to ptubsri01'scomment (below), as I was making changes to address the overly-difficult Sun Temple mission, including the Seal's ability to bring down the armoured tesla trooper (the interesting details will be included in the release article!). Long story short; the way things are with the accuracy thing, is it is deeply inter-linked across hundreds of weapons, hundreds of corresponding weapon projectiles, hundreds of corresponding weapon warheads, compensated with area of effect, as well as deadliness within an effected area, and to change one could ruin the balance with the rest. I have made some careful recalibrations (hinted previously) for the next release, which will address the issue of the energy weapons.

The new version should be ready within a week, so watch this space ;)
