Originally, this map was in a relatively clean underground style. I replaced the geodome model with a cave made from displacement surfaces.
Removing some random wall panels, tilting entire walls by a few degrees, and some good old fashioned burning Asbestos really makes this test chamber feel used.
Since we expect players to spend 30+ minutes on this map, I wanted to make sure they always had some intimidating scenery on show at all times.
Framerate must be very tightly controlled using HINT brushes, since the entire map is visible in places (like through this broken wall), and we're displaying around 10,000 seperate models in our highest visibility scenes.
