Nah, not dead, just been taking a christmas new year break.
So we're starting where we left off, hitting the ground running. Just added functionality for a spectator class who'll be moved off the map and there'll be "tv cameras" situated around the map that the player can get into and switch between, or roam alongside the track. Without any weapons of course :)

And we're not giving up on the cell-shading, just the speed-dial at this stage.
Problem with that is that the game can only calculate distances between control points, which aren't linearly based around the tracks.
Also, there's no way of saying what's calculated client or server side. And by default it does stuff server-side, so the speed would all be done server-side, and with this many people, and the smooth updates of the speed would put too much load on the server.
Yes, we had the same idea as well, unfortunately BF2 speed seems to be a bit "off" (ie. 6000 units), we're not sure what the units are or what time period they're measured in (per hour/per minute). Also there's no way to trick the game into getting it into something normal, at least not from our poking around.
Thanks for the comments, for the first release we have planned to include the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and the BMW Z4, details of which can be found on our website. With future releases we will of course be expanding the garage.
Learn another (ie first) modding skill, would be the biggest one and with the help of starting a uni degree in comp sci it should help :)
Also playing more games and mods.
And eventually starting my own mod.

Kinda ironic EA being a sponsor for a modding award thing when they have never released an SDK for any of their games. O_o
There is now a new patch for the problem that some ppl have encountered - just restart steam and you're ready to go.
Now to figure out how to setup the SDK for MSVC++ 6.0
I haven't really played most of the mods here - therefore my experience is limited and I can't say that something is better than something I hvaen't played :P
Just a playa atm, focusing on bf2 for my mod idea.
I only play mods... for a short while that is :)
