I am the founder of DBolical and creator of ModDB, IndieDB and SlideDB. My aim is to make it easier for gamers to find great games/mods no matter their stage of development. And more importantly give game/mod developers a place to share their work and grow their fanbase - without being dependent on press/editors gatekeeping the important news sites. If you have any ideas or suggestions, hit me up I am always available to talk with the community.

So on the mobile gaming forums lots of randoms visit and promote their "android" game. Some of these posts appear to be legitimate from new developers learning their craft. But the majority look like cheap shovelware - quickly made by companies hoping to make a buck.

The people who post these appear to post once then leave the site. They don't spam anywhere else so technically are not really a pest, but i'm debating disallowing these kinds of posts altogether. What does the community think?

Well perhaps those posts should be just contained within mobile gaming / Pimpage & Posing section, and devs allowed to advertise their apps - and whenever possible, only the community should judge their quality, not the site staff, to avoid bias (also, would be strange to block only certain types of posts; only total allowance or disallowance is an option).

feilyne brings a good point, although it is kinda sad how much mobile shovelware there is. I saw a video about that actually and it made a lot of sense: a youtube video by extra credits called "Shovelware - The Causes and Consequences of Bad Licensed Games" (good question ALAA_AL-SOUDI, I imagine it wouldn't be all too difficult. Controls and formatting would be the hardest parts... Haven't gone into mobile, so I couldn't tell you, although I've noticed the same)

I always only checked the 'active topics', but I did so everyday. After the list got filled with such posts I stopped checking the forums, and as a side-effect I stopped visiting ModDB on a daily basis. So in my opinion, please disallow such posts.
On the other hand I do agree with feillyne... sigh :(
EDIT: Huh, now that I look through the active topics list again, those mobile game topics don't seem to be listed (anymore).. :/

We've added in stronger antispam measures to hopefully eliminate the worst of it
