Campaigns are NOT supported by my mod, and sadly never will be due to the amount of work involved.

As for it crashing in skirmish, does it crash when you try to open up the skirmish menu or when the battle starts?

If it crashes when you are trying to open up the skirmish menu then that likely means that the last skirmish battle you played prior to using my mod was with another mod that had a new faction (e.g. elves or dwarves). Take a look at this article I wrote a few years ago to fix the problem: The3rdage.net
(Edit: or if you don't care about stats with your profile then you can just delete the skirmish.ini file referenced in the link)

No, I looked into it but didn't have time to make it work.

Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to fix that in version 1.3. It might be a missing transition animation for MoS, or it could just be a glitch in the game; I think I've seen that sort of thing happen every once in awhile with random units. Glad to hear you like the mod!

While I didn't test it in-game, I did confirm that the code looks correct for Aragorn to receive his armor upgrades at level 6 and level 8.

Ok, that error means that you likely have another mod installed in the root game directory (C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle Earth). When it is loading my game files it is seeing a conflict between the two files. I'm uploading a new version of the mod right now that might solve that issue. If it doesn't, then you'll have to reinstall the game to get the error to go away.

I'll take a look at the Aragorn king armor and see what's up with that. Unfortunately I cannot make the mod compatible with the campaign; I spent a few minutes looking at it and it would just be too much work and time for me to do. I will probably be releasing version 1.3 sometime this next week, it is all done, I've just been waiting to hear about any bugs or balance issues that I can fix.

What is the error message you receive?

You need to start the game with one of the two shortcuts my mod installs on the desktop; either the 32-bit or 64-bit shortcut depending on what type of computer you have.

I can't say for certain as I haven't tried it, but I believe it will be compatible.

A few quick notes:
1) Feedback is welcome regarding bugs and the balance between the factions, particularly Rohan. I'm not sure if version 1.2 has the best balancing, so if I get a lot of feedback saying that it is bad, I will fix it and release a version 1.3 in the next week or two. (please do not request any new features, powers, units, or artwork - I cannot add anything else into the mod due to time constraints)

2) The mod is not compatible with the campaign; if I have a few minutes of downtime I may fiddle with that and see if there is anything I can do to fix it, but I suspect it would require a lot of effort and time, which I cannot devote to the mod anymore.

3) I am going to try to make the mod compatible with community patch 1.05 in the next version of the mod, so if you use any of the community patches, those will be supported soon.

4) There will almost certainly be a version 1.03 of the mod, likely released next week. This is your chance to get things fixed in the next week or two if you are aware of bugs, typos, or any other quirks that should be fixed. I will also accept suggestions for ways to improve the AI, though I am generally limited to changing the types and quantities of units the AI buys - not adding support for spells or changing how it thinks and acts.

If you aren't putting them on the internet, then certainly you may use whatever you want in your personal maps/mods. :)

The news post hasn't been approved yet it seems, but the mod was just released. A download can be found on my site and I'm uploading it here right now.

It's not a problem to ask, however I've decided not to publish my real name in any of my modding sites. I prefer the anonymity. I'm glad you're excited for the mod :)

No, for the time being I want to keep my Minas Morgul 3d models unique to my mod. If your maps and mods are for personal use only (meaning you will not be putting them on the internet) then you may use my morgul models provided you never upload any maps that use them to the web.

Hi all, I've uploaded several new screenshots to my forums (link in the latest news post). Most are in-game screenshots that the mod team has taken as we balance the mod and play against each other and the AI. Also in my forums are several threads with news and updates.

Also, progress the last few weeks has been fantastic and we are very optimistic that we will be ready for release within a month. We are tweaking the balance, fixing small bugs, and adding new audio and new maps right now and are making fast work of it.

Hi all, this is just to confirm that the mod is still going and that while I and the mod team are busy with school and life we are still working on finishing the mod. If I had to give the mod a percentage finished value I would say 90% done. :) I know it's been a long time but hang in there; the mod will be finished eventually and if the current in-house beta is any indication, it will be awesome!

Quick update: with the start of school our progress on the mod has slowed but we are still going.

Update: primary work on the mod has finished (all new units/heros/art had been added) and it is currently being bug tested and balanced. I don't know how long the mod will be in this state but it is the final stage of work so release is sooner rather than unknown/far away/later. My best guess is 1-2 months but it could be more or less depending on how much we are able to work on it, how many bugs we find, and how quickly we can reach a fair and fun balance.

Even more Rohan screenshots uploaded :) Also up are the new Leadership Glows for the factions. Furthermore, Rohan is done :) Next up is Mordor, though there's even less to do than there was for Rohan.

Well school is ending for me this week and I'm hoping to spend a good amount of time over this summer working on the mod. As it stands now both Gondor and Isengard are nearly finished. Also, I am tentatively posting a release date of late August/early September for the mod. If the mod is not very close to being finished then it will be released "as-is", however if it only needs a little work to be completely finished and 'great' then I'll wait and release it when it is finished. Either way it will be playable when released... if it is "as-is" then it just might not be balanced very well or it might not have AI or some other smaller feature.

Sorry for the lack of news, I've been very busy with school and haven't had much time to work on the mod. That being said, there has been work done on the mod which you can check out on my forums which I'm sure I've linked here somewhere.

Basically Gondor and Isengard are really close to being done with only a few changes to be made and then balancing. However, I know that I won't have any time to complete them within the next few weeks due to finals. After that I go on christmas break and I may or may not be modding, just depends on what I want to do and if I'm busy with family and such. But good news is that after break we start a new semester so all my classes will be easy for the first couple of weeks (hopefully anyway :) and I should be able to work on the mod more then.

Again, sorry for the delays, but school and life come first for me.

@mods: I won't make a small mod that gives unlimited CP, but if you visit The3rdAge.net (google it) you'll find plenty of tutorials and forums that will show you how to do it.

@Morgul: yes I'm sory about that. I actually can't play it either... it's an issue of the graphics card and such. I will certainly try to fix it for the final release of KotW.

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of news recently. I'm preparing for my freshman year of college and have been busy :)

Work on the mod should resume full time within a few weeks. Depends on how soon I get settled in and such.

As far as progress goes: Isengard is at about 95-99% done, Gondor has almost all the new models in-game but needs to be coded, Mordor also has almost all the all the new models in-game but not yet coded. Rohan is not quite as close as the rest but only needs a few more models and then a slightly larger number of things to be coded. Gondor and Rohan are currently being worked on and with some good work I think they could be finished up pretty quickly.

I'm also afraid that I'm going to have to push back the release estimate to at least winter, say sometime near christmas... though it could be longer if the mod team is kept busy with school.

I've uploaded some new screenshots of the new rohan infantry unit "Men of the Westfold". Due to some cool scripting functions this unit has over 14,500 possible different variations in-game. Obviously some of those differences are minor, but it's still pretty cool :)

Nope, there are certain things that cause it, and they are almost always errors with mod compatability (either this problem with non-existant factions or wrong patches or just a bad line of code in the mod files). Your best bet is to uninstall the mod first and if that doesn't fix it then you could either reinstall or contact the person who made the mod or one of us at The3rdAge, we are definately willing to help out with these types of errors ;) We've seen nearly all of them and we've figured out how to fix (or what caused) most of them.
