Wanderlust: Rebirth

Game review

This game is pretty amazing and not something seen too often nowadays. It's pretty hard and throws you right into the action, but it's still completely possible. The pass/fail system on normal difficulty really allows you to better yourself for next time in order to get that 100% to truly advance to the next level. The game play itself is smooth and there's hardly a dull moment. The ending of normal difficulty is fantastic, made me want to play through again on epic. Epic difficulty itself is a completely new experience where the difficulty gets ramped up even higher and everything about how you played before needs revision. The extra touches to the game make it absolutely worth it. Crawl mode is great for a change of pace and as an easier way to earn those extra tokens for epic gear and the secret bosses are always fun to try and find if no one gives away the secret. Most importantly, the developers really care about the game and work on improving it wherever there are faults. During the first month or two after its release, I was able to contact the developers and aid them in fixing imbalances, bugs, and suggest things for new content. They rationally took everything in and built more of their game around other player's suggestions and worked quickly as just about every day I downloaded a new patch excited about the improvements. Really, this game is quite under-appreciated I'm assuming either because of its graphics, reliance on word of mouth publicity, or because of its price. But price is no longer an issue with the December sale, and if you can get past 8-bit graphics, you'll really be in store for an amazing experience, especially with a group of friends. Hopefully as the game picks up, there will be more of an opportunity for more pick up groups.
