Since, i STILL cant get the strength's to get a decent graphics tablet, i have none (duh..) But i accidentally stumbled upon a video of a dude using his webcam to track his fingers and use it as a multi touch surface.. So i got a very cheap looking webcam (which turned out to be actually cheap!!) and played around with it, at first the results were awful, but after some tweaking i got a more or less working input device (approx the size a half page) so i tweaked it a bit more, and then i built it into my glass desk (which i used to hate, since it gets dirty very quickly) and now i can pretend i am an evil genius or a guy from CSI (which in real life is not like on tv -_-) but yeah, i can draw on the table with my fingers, makes photoshoping, digital painting so much easier..Next stop, Touchscreen table! (by coincidence i have all the materials needed) I wonder what else i can do with that webcam besides awkward video calls..
Not 3D related though awesomeish..

Video or it didn't happen :( Was it difficult to make this work, or was the 'tweaking' just a matter of changing software settings of a certain program?
Ok, ill try to get my room tidy and nice and then i will make a video of it (should take me a week or so)
The main tweaking was adjusting the filters of the video (Threshold, smoothen etc.) so the software would "catch" only my fingers (or a ugly USB laser pen i made, works better than fingers, duh xD ) and ofcourse getting the webcam in the right place (I made a tripod from chopsticks :D )And sadly it turned out that i need special LED's for the touch table, so i could project the actual screen on the surface) I am looking where to get those for a relatively decent price (Infrared LED's) , so for now the project is on hold, anyhow the so called tablet is working more than nicely and I now have it at a perfect 1:1 size ratio of my screen >:D
Ahh sounds like a cool little project then :) IR LED's aren't that expensive (maybe relatively to normal LED's they are, but they're still cheap :P), assuming small ones will do. I'm not sure what you think is a decent price though? ... Wait I'm now realizing that you probably won't need normal IR LED's if it's supposed to project something >.< Anyway, I think I may have found a new use for my old, dust-gathering webcam :D
well, getting IR led's in Latvia is a pain in zee butt :D and i would be projecting stuff with an ordinary projector, to see the actual screen.. but yeah, since i have no LED's (for now) i am drawing with my USB laser on a drafting paper.. :D
And good luck with your project!
