Heat Vision would be good, as snakes IRL use that as do many other animals, and would be useful for deep sea Organisms.

An idea for evolution, instead of the whole population evolving, make it about 1/2 or a 1/4 of the population, So That the original species has a chance to split again, die out or replace the evolved population. (Replacing would mean that the evolved population had a bad mutation, and even both groups could die out too.)
