Aww, no torpedo waves?

lol, im sure that that would of been hard to program anyways. So are the front guns just there to act like torpedoes are firing?

Yeah, the Tau move at a snails pace through the warp, but don't take any damage because of that.

Also, the webway is really unclear on what it is, the Eldar codex and the 40k lexicanum claim that they could move ships through the webway because the ships had no other way of transportation.

Reading back on it, the webway seems to simply be a "tunnel" in the warp, or a sleeve around a section of warp space isolating it from the rest of the warp. Also, there is the Craftworld "the Black Library" that just floats around in the space.

I think it all has to do with the size of each webway portal as the limiting factor to what can access it.

Is the 3 weapon limit constraining the weapon types, or the overall number of weapon firing arcs a model can have? Because this thing looks like it has over 3 guns :P

Ah, that's cool. Good to know, the FFG guys really did a great job with fluff for the Imperial Navy, they are a great read. What programing code are you using? Is it C++ or C# or whatever people call it? Or is it some other software specific thing that you are using?

Maybe code it in as a REALLY short ranged weapon that makes it look like the ship rammed the target, but really it was an attack with minimal range and produces a lot of partial effects. It would also have to affect both ships, although the victim would take more damage.

Now this has me thinking of the other aspects of the game...

Eldar webways remind me of the Vasari tech that allows you to make your own routes, as no one can predict there movements. That would also represent the Necrons method of travel as well, as they don't even need the warp, they just accelerate to REALLY fast speeds. Meanwhile the other races would need to use the "stable warp routes" to travel from planet to planet. I can imagine that Chaos can move the fastest through the "jump lanes/stable warp routes" with Imperium being a close second. Then, at the other end would be the Tau and Orks, as the Tau just "skim" the warp, and the Orks generally have no idea what the hell they are doing, but somehow make it through due to the fact that they think they are awesome. I would have to say that the Eldar and Necrons would then be in the middle of the pack for Interstellar space speed. (although they would definitely be the fastest ships around once they get into the planetary system).

Any thoughts? Am I on the right track, or did I get some things wrong?

If you’re having trouble establishing differences between Chaos and Imperium tactics and weapon load-outs, remember this useful fact: Imperium ships can only broadside, as there front arc has long-range torpedoes (which should be some kind of special order thing); while Chaos whips have front mounted weapons that can fire front, left, and right.

This means, that while Imperium ships will always attempt to point there bow at the enemy fleet and charge into close quarters where they can fire both side of there guns at enemy ships, the chaos ships can be content with simply circling the enemy fleet, bringing the firepower of there 2 broadside with the prow and/or dorsal weapons to bear on the enemy fleets, thus spoiling the Imperial Navys tactics, as they are unable to match the chaos firepower with out closing in.

Tau have a similar tactic, as there weapons can fire both on the side and front arcs. This is not as effective at the circling tactic that the chaos can do, as they need to point there fronts at the enemy (and therefore close with imperial ships) but while they are closing they have time to try and thin the numbers of the opposing group.

I would change the scale.

The sins frigates would be the frigates of 40k.

The sins cruisers would be the heavy frigates and light cruisers of 40k. Aka, the Voss triplets, Dauntless, Lathe, and whatnot. You would probably need to scale up the cruisers in sins to match the light cruisers.

The sins capital ships would be the cruisers, these actually work pretty well, as cruisers are one of the most powerful ships in the game.

The sins titans would be the Battle Barges and Battleships of the 40k universe. Battleships are Massive and Venerable starships, and the ability to construct such massive vessels, according to most sources, has been lost for some time. Thats not that bad of an issue, as destroying a battleship is a ginormous task, and it is 10 times easier to cripple it and destroy the weapons and other components. Most times, a ship is merely hulked, and recovered centuries later to be fixed up and pressed into service.

Everyone has their own opinions, and thats just how I have interpreted things based on the fluff I have read.

Remember that a cruiser can take on multiple frigate squadrons and still come out on top! They can just tank damage like none other, its more likely to lose your crew or suffer enough criticals to be rendered incapable of battle that be completely destroyed. However, in Sins things I'm sure will be different.

The Chaos Planet Killer would make a great anti-planet/space station Titan in Sins. It could probably function as a mobile TEC Novalith Cannon, and when its in the system, the cannon could do even more damage. It should be a mix of a Novalith Cannon and a fully upgraded Argonev Star Base, with weak engines.

Alas, the same weak engines is how the Planet Killer fell in the BFG lore; while attacking, a larger force counter-attacked and destroyed the chaos vessel.

If you are choosing one over the other because you don't have access to the other, I have purchased quite a few of the FFG books related to 40k, and can help with any information you might need.

Also, I was wondering how you will do the weapons. Obviously lances need to be represented by the beam weapons, but how will you be representing Macro-Batteries, Torpedoes, or strike craft?

Also, ship classes: what are you planning to do with the limited amount of ship modes that you have, or will you be able to create your own?

Obviously the frigates of the game will be represented by frigates of the 40k universe, I can defiantly see the Falchion class and Sword class be the missile frigate of the game.
But the cruisers of the Sins game are essentially beefed up frigates, and are no means comparable to the cruisers of 40k. They, at best, would be related to heavy frigates, and really light cruisers.
If i could code, I would code the cruisers of Sin's to be stronger and larger than they currently are, and then have them be the light cruisers of the 40k universe. And the capital ships should totally be the cruisers of the 40k universe. And I'm assuming that you intend the dreadnoughts of Sins to be the Grand Cruisers/Battleships of the 40k universe.

Well, I should wrap up now, I'm sure you already have an idea of the things you are going to implement into the game, and I wish you the best of luck. I would totally donate money to the project, but I invested most of it into college. If you need any information, just feel free to ask away!

Dear Mr. Palaisy,
Fist off I would like to congratulate you on your work so far with this Warhammer 40,000 mod for Sins of a Solar Empire. I myself love both Warhammer 40k and Sins, and combining both of them together is genius! Now I have a couple questions to ask you on your work:

For basing and comparing ships, will you be using either Battle Fleet Gothic or Fantasy Flight Games: Rouge Trader.

I am asking this because they are two completely different beasts. The advantages of using BFG is that it encompasses all of the races of 40k, and has an easy-to-read rule system and the stats for separating ship classes are basic and simple. It is easier to use and involves a lot less work.
The FFG Rouge Trader books: Core book, lists basic hulls and components to ships; Into the Storm, adds some ship classes and different races, as well as adding more components and weapons for new ship hulls; and the Kronus Expanse, Includes rules for Torpedoes, strike craft, and Nova Cannons--as well as including even more ship hulls/components and xenos races to use. There is a treasurer trove of information included in those 3 books, but it is all scattered and unorganized. It shows precises differences in ships weapons and structure; for example, in BFG if a ship is outfitted with plasma weaponry, it has longer range. In FFG's game system, a ship with plasma weaponry generally has slightly increases damage, higher chance to cause criticals, and the criticals it does cause, they do more damage.
My friends and I have developed a tabletop version of the FFG's system by standardizing crew stats and component costs. Let me tell you, personally building your own ship, starting with a hull of your choosing, adding components and budgeting your available points, ship space, and power consumption, really adds a whole new level to the enjoyment of the game.
