Report RSS How to be sherlock holmes? Use deductive reasoning to solve cases

Posted by on

Sherlock Holmes is a well-known fictional character all over the world. He is the protagonist of the novels written by the British writer Arthur Conan Doyle. So how do we become a Sherlock Holmes?

Although Holmes is a fictional person, the methods he uses are scientific. He uses a type of logical reasoning called "deduction." Deduction and deductive reasoning are the most brilliant methods of detection in case solving because it allows you to solve cases without evidence.

In fact, it is not difficult to become a case-solving master like Sherlock Holmes, which requires three elements:

  1. Meticulous Observation
  2. Clear and calm mind
  3. Accurate reasoning and judgment

Although these three elements are simple, you will find it difficult to implement them in practice. The main reason is that these three elements have too high requirements on the quality of people. Secondly, solving cases cannot rely on theory alone. It requires a lot of practice, which limits your ability.

Step #1, Careful Observation

Reasoning and judging the case is inseparable from accurate and careful observation of the scene and the victims. Why? Because modern crimes are already very advanced, it is very common to forge scenes and destroy corpses. Therefore, this requires investigators to have strong observation skills, and must be able to find subtle clues from subtle differences, and sometimes this is very useful for solving cases.

Observation Step 1: investigation of the crime scene

As mentioned earlier, in order to cover up their crimes, criminals often adopt the method of forging the scene to confuse the investigators and interfere with the direction of solving the case. Therefore, it is necessary to first judge whether the scene of the crime is the first scene, and there are some basis for judgment:

  • Is there a large amount of blood at the scene of the crime?

Generally speaking, if it is a traumatic crime, such as murder, the victim will bleed a lot after being traumatized. Therefore, if there is no large-scale blood at a crime scene, then the scene is likely to be faked.

  • Traffic conditions at the crime scene

The traffic conditions at the scene of the crime determine how the criminals escape from the scene. If the crime is committed indoors, the criminals will definitely leave some clues indoors or in the corridor.

If the criminal commits the crime outdoors, he must check the surrounding environment to see if he can collect some marks of the criminal, such as footprints or marks left by vehicles.

Observation Step 2: Observation of the Victim

After the victim is attacked and killed by criminals, the victim's body will definitely leave marks of criminals, such as wounds, which will help investigators to solve the case.

  • Judgment of Victim's Wounds

The judgment of the victim's wound can determine the way the criminal used to cause the victim's death. Different weapons will leave different wound shapes. And if the death of the victim is caused by other means, such as poisoning or drowning, it will also be reflected in the deceased.

  • Judgment on the occupation and age of the victim

Determining the occupation and age of the victim will help investigators narrow the scope of the investigation and catch the killer in time. For example, the age of the victim can be deduced by observing the victim's skin, because the skin of the young is immature, while the skin of the middle-aged and the elderly is rough, we can observe the age of the victim through the skin.

It is also very important to judge the occupation of the victim.

  1. For example, if the victim is a monk who recites scriptures, he will have a thick callus on his right index finger. The reason is that the monk often rubs the prayer beads with his right index finger.
  2. For another example, if the victim is a gardener, then his fingernails will have a lot of black mud, which is caused by the cultivation of flowers and plants all the year round.
  3. For example, if the victim is a bussiness woman, the victim's feet will also tell us the information, because professional women wear high heels all year round, which will cause the bones of the feet to bend greatly.

With such meticulous observation, even in some special circumstances, such as the victim's head being beheaded, we can infer the victim's age and occupation by observing the hands and feet.

  • How to deal with special situations

In many cases, criminals destroy the remains of victims for various reasons, such as burning victims, throwing victims into the sea, or even turning victims into bones. How do we infer and analyze?

Unless the victim is burned to powder, then as long as there is a legacy of the victim, then we can make inferences. For example, in the judgment of gender, women's pelvis is relatively large, which can be used as a basis for inference. Another example is the judgment of age can be inferred by the degree of wear and tear of the teeth. Another example is the professional judgment can detect the bones.

Step #2, Clear and Calm Mind
