Hi there. Well there are few problems, that I knew about even at the time of the release like unnecesary particles or too many spotlights.
But if I wanna achieve the effect of making the lamps look nice and make them cast shadows then 4 or 5 spotlights are unnecesary (1 up and 4 in every direction). If I use only one or two spotlights, then that is impossible since a candle for example would only shine in one or two directions max.
But I think the floor candle had like 9 spotlights which is pretty bad (removed 4 and framerate was already much higher.)
Pointlights don't really matter (or at least they aren't as demanding as spotlights), since they don't cast any shadows what so ever and are there to make up for spotlights, which don't illuminate the whole lamp (they would look dark even though they are lit).
I even tried to lower the FOV of the spotlights so the shadows wouldn't overlap, but it would just make the lamps look much worse.
About the particles you are right, they are unnecesary and can be added in the process of making the maps.
About your framerate, I'm not sure. I never had such low framerate in the base game (maybe only in the study, where one room has like 6 lights. That's where it dropped to like 45 but not lower. The first map didn't really drop under 40 but it was pretty much 70+ fps most of the time (at least for me).
Shadow of the Ramlord on the other hand is unplayable in some parts with these lamps. If there are like 30 candles next to each other, then the FPS is going to drop SIGNIFICANTLY.
Maybe try to have clean Amnesia installation since it might lag if you have modified it in any way or you have a lot of custom stories installed.
One more thing to take into the account is that, you can have the most powerful PC but Amnesia engine has it's limits and it's going to start dropping framerate at some point.
I'm thinking about making a pointlight version only or without making them cast shadows. It would pretty much fix most problems with the framerate.
And I'm happy you like them. I'm going to try to optimize them but I'm starting to believe, there isn't much possible without lowering the quality.

Hi, I'm 20 years old guy from Czechia, who likes to play Amnesia and one day might even release own mod. Like to review things with extreme honesty so watch out for it and don't hate me for it. Thanks.
