Magic, for years i wanted a hybrid of what you are doing, and what wolfman has done. I have mucked with .pak, .fst. .fit, and .csv files. what I have discovered lately, that instead of using mech swapper, or adding new units to missions, just reskin existing units in mission, and campaign.
For example in MC1 Scouting, reskin lrmc with heavy lrmc, then replace multi lrm5's with 2 lrm20 in the .csv. This will replace all lrmc in game.
Poor infantry get pounded by even the lightest of Mechs, so reskin Powered Armor, change .csv to streak and laser, and fix armor. Now all infantry in game, may survive just an instant longer, but look much more menacing doing so. Oh, and the worthless minelayer, reskin in Challenger heavy tank with weapon mods in .csv, now worth dropping!

it is a great mod, and bridges the gap between mc2 and rts.
