DoWPro

Mod review

Not only hands-down the definitive DoW experience, but also one of the best mods, period. The in-game manager that lets you switch from Soulstorm to DowPro in a moment of seconds is typical of the polish and level of thought that went into this mod.

This is what Dawn of War used to be before it turned into a high-tech unit spam, combined with all the great new features of the expansions and balanced to a razor's edge.

The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM)

Mod review

To be honest, I never played either of the kotor games when they came out. Or many other games, for that matter.

So when I heard about kotor I earlier this year, I played it and frankly decided that it was one of the best rpg's I'd ever played.

Eager for more greatness, I performed some internet research and learned not only of the sequel, but this imminent release of this mod. And so I bought kotor II and left the case sealed in anticipation of TSLRCM releasing.

And hell, did it deliver. After finishing KotORII, I have to say that it is not as good as KotOR I. But it is a good game. And I think the key word here for KotOR II is: intriguing.

Even having not played the unfinished version, I found that I could easily spot the excellent restored content, not from reading about it online, but instead by how much better some of it was over the original content. Camera work is a particular highlight; enjoy some of the dramatic, satisfying swings during momentuous moments, in addition to the obvious plot holes filled in by the mod.

There's really nothing bad to say about it. No bugs, no drop in quality. I can only say good things about this mod.

Clear Sky Complete

Mod review

This mod fixes pretty much everything that was rushed about Clear Sky, save for the story. It makes it feel like an improved version of Shadow of Chernobyl, rather than the buggy disappointment that the original release was.

The only problem I've had is with my computer's 4650 HD ATI graphics card, whose suckyness has prevented me from completely finishing this game.

Excepting a lack of framerate on my end, the swamps and territories are really nice, every pixel of foilage and every gameplay element suggesting the words "Clear Sky" to the player, while still retaining (and recovering) everything that makes STALKER great.

STALKER Complete 2009 (2012)

Mod review

This mod makes the game more than worth playing. This game has now gone from the status of a messy PC curiosity to a must-play PC game.

Nehrim: At Fate's Edge

Mod review

The king of Oblivion mods, has more polish, features and better game play than many full featured games.

This mod obviously influenced Skyrim immensely; there are many small details in this game that don't appear in Oblivion but do in Skyrim: bard playing music on command to a larger variety of spell effects.
