Edain Mod

Mod review may contain spoilers

One of the biggest and certainly most famous mods in BFME community is astounding amount of work and we have to admire that but is also, atleast for me, a bag of mixed feelings.

Edain uses expanded BFME 1 building plot system which I'm a big fan of but I see the point of saying it makes gameplay static. Fortunately, developers made what they could to make it feel dynamic. Edain features a lot of factions with each on of them having different focus and some tweaks to the mechanics with Sauron-centered Mordor being the biggest stand-out with most unique feeling. Some factions have really cool ideas while with others it seems like there wasn't any idea how to make them different from vanilla. Economy and Siege are more prominent mechanics with many yet simple new upgrades to the structures and some interesting new units as Pitch throwers and Siege Shield.
In terms of big gameplay changes Edain has an unique approach to spellbooks with many completely original powers and different ladder of spells.

Edain expands massively on heroes, buildings and units roosters with mostly great ideas and good design. It keeps it most times intact with lore. There's a place even for Quickbeam and Erestor!

Edain expands the number of movie soundtracks used in-game it also features some new sounds and gives many heroes movie-based voicesets. That's as good as it is bad - it's nice to hear iconic and familiar quotes but it's also odd to hear Aragorn talking about Nazguls while attacking warg creeps.

In terms of visuals Edain comes out as high quality mod in most cases but as it is mod developed thorought many years you can still find many poorly looking objects. Many new buildings are also using vanilla textures and models with slightly better quality.

Edain performs well even with many units on screen. Sometimes you will see a crash but it's mostly the case of old game engine. Edain also features very good launcher with options to direct download updates, adjust some things, disable the mod or repair it.

Overally Edain Mod is really good piece work that some would consider just good or will consider it masterpiece. I wouldn't call it that way as for me it's too schematic - all spellbooks divided into attack-defense, all factions having siege equipment, heroes being divided into roles. But nevertheless it's good mod than I definetely recommend!
