Hello, I can confirm seeing this problem. But it also occurs on the original unpatched game. It's been a long time since I played Haegemonia so I'm not entirely sure if this is a new problem or if it was already present before.

Anyway, I don't think I can solve this. It could be an engine thing or some new compatibility problem with newer Direct X or Windows updates. You have to keep in mind that this game was released in 2002 for Direct X 8 and even though MS usually takes backwards compatibility serious, it's not always perfect.

I suppose Microids (the current publisher on Steam) could fix this, but given their track record for fixes (*cough* Sound System Error *cough*), I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

Hi there, haven't been on ModDB for a while so sorry for the late reply.
The installation is actually quite simple:
- download "Hgm_Steam_Soundfix_1.2.zip" from this site
- in your Steam Library right-click "Haegemonia: Legions of Iron" and open "Properties"
- click on the "LOCAL FILES" tab and once open click the "BROWSE LOCAL FILES" button
- replace the "Game.exe" file (may only show as "Game" depending on your explorer settings with the "Game.exe" file contained in "Hgm_Steam_Soundfix_1.2.zip"
- Enjoy not having crashes any more :)

I guess you're running Windows 10? This patch is based on the game version from before the devs fixed the Windows 10 issues that caused a immediate crash after the intro.

Is the Sound System Error crash still present in the latest game version? I hoped they fixed it along with the other issues but I haven't played the game lately.

That's nice to hear, wasn't expecting any suprises but one can't be sure whether Microsoft did introduce any new compatibility problems in Windows 8 that affect Haegemonia. Have fun :)

I can't tell whether it works on Windows 8/8.1 because I don't own any of those, but I also haven't heard that ist doesn't work. You could of course simply try and report back with your results.

Haegemonia was recently released on Steam and i couldn't resist the summer sale, so the good news for you is that there are now patches for the Steam versions of LOI and TSH.

Thanks for promoting this. I hope it helps some to enjoy this great classic one more time without having to mess around with compatibility options (which didn't even fix the problem for me).

I did not attempt the multiplayer fix at first because I hadn't encountered it and I do not currently play LOI in multiplayer so I have no real means to test it. I've thrown together a new patched executable including the multiplayer fix here En.file-upload.net If someone could verify that this works I'll update the download.

I also believe that creating a patched GOG executable would be possible (depending on how much they changed the original code) - I do not own the GOG version but if someone provided me their Hgm.exe I think I could do it "blind".
