It's the perfect unofficial patch, plain and simple. It fixes the base game to an astounding degree and optionally restores content while keeping the integrity of the original. Fantastic, amazing, astounding work.

This is the closest we're probably going to get to a new Silent Hill resembling the first two games. The mod is beautifully done and impressively manages to successfully mix the aesthetics and sound-design of SH2 with the PS1-limited otherworld of SH1. It's not all great though.
The pacing of the mod could do with quite a bit of trimming in the hospital location and after the story's final revelation the mod hints at further story development, but this unfortunately never happens, leaving the end to fizzle out instead of leaving any real impression. Several puzzles are also overly difficult due to wonky triggers; you'll have to stand and click _just right_ to proceed, leading to many false dead ends.
With a bit of tightening of the narrative and a few technical touch-ups, this could be the next best thing to a "real" SH4 and an impressive first-person reboot of the series, but it's not quite there yet unfortunately.
