When the Rhen Var: Citadel trailer was recorded, the Unofficial v1.3 patch was in the addon folder. It includes some visual side overrides as well as a vast array of additional options. So to answer your question, the mod will have no side alterations.
It's going quite well, the mod is coming along steadily and we've nearly completed the first milestone for release. Time constraints have restricted the number of updates, I do apologize for that and hope to bring those who are watching up to speed soon.
Our goal is to make this mod as close to the original game as possible with a clean and seamless integration into the SWBF2. It's quite likely that they will be able to function as you've stated. The only instance we cannot work around is the prone position which was hard coded into SWBF1.

The level of progress is restrictive due to the number of members working on the project and the amount of time we have to dedicate to it. Nonetheless, we shall complete it.
The space ships can be utilized on the ground maps if they were setup that way in the first game. The rebel tank will be featured in the BF1 Campaign; assets will be released for ease of modification addition.
The one detail we decided not to match in the conversion was the Jedi, we felt that the BF2 versions we far more enjoyable to play and have much more variety.

Yep, we're still working on the mod. Although we have limited time to work on the project and limited members to assist, progress is still being made every day.
We have recently added the conversion Geonosis: Spire screenshots to the Mod DB page, the map itself is nearing completion, along with Kamino: Topica City.
This mod is still active. We will be updating the "Star Wars Battlefront: United" Page very soon with some updates I am sure you will enjoy!
Thank you for the suggestion but that is not the intention of this mod. We will be merging BF1 with BF2 in a way that makes them feel one in the same without adding entirely new content as other "Conversions" have done.
The goals for BFU are listed in the previous comment. Again, we are releasing the assets. If modders wish to create such a mod they may do so with the assets we have provided them with. We cannot please everyone.

-Stock Games Modes (Consistent with BF2)
-White Map Names (Instant action menu)
-Proper Map Descriptions (Instant action menu)
-BF2 Style Mini-maps (Rather than BF1)
-New High Resolution Load-screens for all maps
-One Addon Folder for all the maps
Lastly, after the final release of BFU we will be giving the community the assets for all the maps and sides! Something that the Conversion Pack and Marvel4's Conversions did not do. This will enable the community to create custom BF1 Map variants and more diverse sides without the hassle of converting the maps themselves!

Because of our small team size we will be releasing the mod in segments. There are four milestones to complete each with 2-6 objectives. I estimate that each milestone will take about a month each with four members.

We've decided to use stock heroes to maintain consistency between BF2 and BF1 maps. The assets for BFU will be released so they can easily be added in future mods.

Will you be modifying the Battle Droid models to look more like they did in the movies? I see that this Stormtrooper model looks a hell of a lot more accurate than the original Battlefront II version.

Ever consider some Droid Heroes? OOM-9 Would make a good one for the Naboo maps. Then again, more people prefer Darth Maul over a Battle Droid.
