Fallout

Game review

Fallout does everything needed in a good RPG and it does it extremely well. Character creation and development is very good with many different skills to develop and feats to choose from to customise your character to suit your playing style. The turn-based combat is of just the right level of difficulty to be highly rewarding when you win a difficult battle without being so extremely difficult that you give up. You are free to travel anywhere in the world at an early stage and the game lets you do pretty much anything you want. You can play as a saintly character, an evil character or anything in between. The choices you make make a real difference to how the story develops and consequently there are multiple endings. This is at least one of the top five RPG's I've ever played (Fallout 2 and Planescape Torment come to mind as holding two of the remaining places on the top 5).

Fallout 2

Game review

Fallout 2 basically does everything that the first Fallout game did at least as well as the first game. Everything that was good about the first game is still there, I'm not going to repeat everything I said in my review of the first game here. The first game was so great that more of the same is certainly a good thing but Fallout 2 also introduces enough new features that it is more than just more of the same. A great sequel to one of the best RPG's ever and one of the best RPG's ever in itself.

Trine

Game review

Three very different antagonists with very different motivations keep the story of the game interesting. Gameplay is made interesting by the need to use the different characters different abilities to tackle the challenges you face along with plain good level design. The game could be called a puzzle platformer but it is more of a platform game than a puzzle game. There are optional challenges that require a bit of more puzzling to solve, though, and bring you rewards if you solve them.

The game also has RPG elements as you can level up your characters and give them new or improved abilities. Together these elements make for a fun game, that will appeal to many different kinds of gamers. Graphics, voice acting sound and music are all good and together create a suitable atmosphere.

I would recommend the game mainly to gamers who like platform games, but puzzle game enthusiasts and RPG gamers may also find that it is worth giving the game a try.
