It is hypothesised that the CAT6 Mercenaries began their career as Need for Speed racers in the Underground, and that the traditional use of Neon lights on the underbelly of their vehicles has carried over to their ships. After nearly bankrupting the entire criminal underworld with their racing abilities, they acquired the funds to start their criminal enterprise for racing in gargantuan vessels with gigantic neon lights.
Comments from the CAT6 Mercenaries state that the massive complement of weapons are to "discourage the C-Sec from pursuing" in order to have their now-interstellar-races remain uninterrupted from Law Enforcement.
