Hey finaly got The Precursors yesterday and I got it to work it took me 2 hours of reinstalling and doing some magic with both a German and English translation patch and I finaly can play it, well sort of there are still npc's that talk Russian but luckly its playable.. your objectives and the main missions are all in English/German. All I can say is that it really is a RPG/FPS and Space-Explorer though it is more an FPS over an RPG you can LVL and unlock Perks and upgrade your weapons and there are factions that you can join and then other factions become hostile, I have been both on an Avatar jungle'ish planet and I am now on a Desert Planet but with some interresting twists and a town that they took straight out of starwars ( (Mos Eisley the desert town/city) for the beginning gameplay you should definatly look these vids they don't have any spoilers and can give you a good idea about how it is: Youtube.com
