There's a Modding Guide which is included with the model viewer's documentation. It has most of your basic information about how to mod new content into Nexus. I highly recommend reading it or at least the parts you're interrested in.

The modding manual? It's very helpfull but I'd recommend using it for specific research only as general reading would just fry most folks minds.:D

Ok? Anyone have any general ideas on how to use the Lightwave 3D 9.6 in co-ordination with Modifying "Creating" new ships etc... for Nexus. Beyond that found a faulty DaTool for unpacking Nexus_00.dat. (Didn't work :flame:) Othen then the Modding manual that came with the game itself it drives me mad to flip through it and slowly seeping into insanity. O_o

So now that I have the basic tool's for the job. I could use some Basic info on getting the ships from Nexus (And other "stuff") to Lightwave. and "Stuff" back into Nexus. or any other info that I could use for this procedure please let me know. 8)

Well, the best thing to do is to make the model you want ingame in 3ds max and then later import it into lightwave later, but that's just my personal preference. I find 3ds max a lot easier then lightwave.

After the model is done and it's in Lightwave, you should start adding hardpoints, (I have a file that could help you with that but I also suggest you just open a lwo file that came with the modding tools) when that is done you need to move to the coding part. I'm not too great with that but I know Old Dragon (Kirsah) is. Though it's just mostly copying an original ship and then modifying it to your liking.

Hi folks,

If you wish to modify an existing Nexus ship, you'll need to unpack the game first in order to get at the mesh and tex files (unless they're in a mod, of course). Once that's done, the only way I know from here is to use milkshape3D. If you've already got it, all fine and well. If not, then you can get the free trial version (as per normal, it has a time limit on it). Once you've procured a copy, you'll need a plug-in called 'msMSH1999JImporter' by Rainman - once the good folks here at ModDb admin clear it, it'll be available in our downloads section :) .

Simply install said file, open up Milkshape and 'import' the mesh or tex you want. You can work on it there and then or export it straight out into lightwave. Once you're done modifying, run it through the nexus converter and off you go... happy modding :D
