What do you think? Which one is better? Two fear-inspiring giants of WW2.
Obviously the IS-2 is superior to the Tiger I, it was built to counter it...
However in theory the Tiger could still win a 1 on 1 due to a number of factors which I won't mention because it'll just drag out.
both can penetrate frontal armour of the others right?, but Tiger have pretty much better RoF, while IS-2 is hampered with shell drop me heard. IS-2 is manly for blasting stuff to smithereens, not a tank killer.
Yeah, the main gun of the IS-2 was pretty much made for destroying defences. Though when they did manage to get a hit on a Tiger, it was pretty devastating.
Its going to be quite simply a "who hits who first" battle IMO.
Also very much depends on where the Tiger hits the IS-2. Pretty sure frontally it was invulnerable to the 88 L/56 at certain distances. The IS-2s problem was that it had poor optics combined with the fact that it could only average 2-3 rounds per minute. And iirc it only carried 8 AT rounds.
I said I wouldn't go into detail, but I couldn't help it. :P
Like I said, If the Tiger can outmaneuver(Tiger is more mobile than IS-2) and hit the IS-2 in ts weak spot(Side armor, engine ETC) then the battle is over. And if the IS-2 can get a direct hit at the Tiger hull than its the other way around.
Pretty much.
But, most of the time the Tiger can't outmaneuver the IS-2 because they always has rear guard of some T-34 tanks.
And it is rare to see an IS-2 going alone without another IS-2 or support of T-34-85 tanks.
well tiger could use APCR rounds, which of course was very rare but could probably be saved for such an epic clash of the titans :D
You don't need to penetrate a tank in order to kill the crew. That said the Tiger will gain the upper hand in an 1o1. Because of better accuracy and fire rate. The Tigers and in particually German tanks had an Lower MMP and NMP. That making them more mobile than Shermans, IS2, or Pershings etc.
Well, given the factor that Germans were the better tacticians and had more often than not better trained crew members... I'd put my money on the Tiger.
And that's why they have lost 2 wars! xD
'tacticians' being the key word there. ;)
Well to put it simple - Germans went for 'Quality over quantity' while the USSR went for 'Quality of the quantity'. I'm sure you'll spot the difference there =)

The IS2 canon was poor didnt had the accuracy the Tigers 88 had. Also the 88 and the Panthers 75mm both had superior penetrating capabilities, the 75mm was even better. The IS2s advantage was the HE, it could pack a devasting punch. The IS2 gun was actually an Arty equpiment.
