First off a tank like this wouldn't be unnecessary if the Army adopted the M8 AGS. And if the M1128 wasn't such a screw up.
Computer added dodging and repositioning of armor plates would be inferior and expensive compared to a laser based active protection system.
MBT's and Light Tanks with Liner Motor cannons are also going to make much of this technology pointless.
A better investment would be the PL-01 if DARPA wanted to make a stealth tank or a stealthy IFV.

But then it would not be exorbitantly profitable for the military-industrial complex.

It doesn't need to be superior, nor efficient, it needs to have as many unnecessary new technologies as possible, so that they can charge more for it and patent it.

That is the problem isn't it? Instead of going with what works we have to build obsolete rifles while developing overpriced Armored Vehicles, ships and fighters that will be useless during the next ten years of warfare. Instead of buying off the shelf equipment and upgrading it. But no the military-industrial complex has to make a profit.

very well put, I find it odd that obscure projects seems to get funded almost always but yet somehow they dont prove to be that effective

Such as the Osprey Disaster, Stryker AFV, F-35 JSF funding issues, M1 Abrams series being stuck with gas turbine engine, Drones where they seem to kill more civilians then military targets etc.

Indeed the Military Industrial Complex has to grow, it is no more about war itself but the mere commercialization of it including false flag attacks, prolonged wars and telling lies - it doesn't matter if the soldiers have to die more often, as long the cash keeps flowing.

And what is with the war on Afghanistan? 13 years ongoing conflict but no progress made at all.
