how did that ship on the video just manage to sit there? lol. it seems a bit too close for comfort.
This is the Hardtack / Umbrella shot of 1958. It took place inside the Enewetak atoll lagoon, about 5 miles off an island on the southern edge of the atoll. It was an 8kt device resting on the floor at about 150 ft of water. It was the shallower of a pair (the other being wahoo at 500 feet down in 3000 foot deep water). The ship was the E2, a liberty ship used as a target in both trials. It lived through the experience, but was so decrepit after this one that is was sunk for target practice a week later. It had little choice about being there; it had lost its engines long before.
