Hey, everyone post a short intro here! I'm Sean from Cavan. Mainly a composer but I've done 3d modeling, some coding, storylining, PR, concept art. I like to try my hand at anything really but composing is most definitely my main field. |

Hi my name is Paul. I live in Waterford. I'm not really a modder, I've done a bit of file manipulation(not major) I've tried my hand at make maps in some games but i love trying new mods, they are what have kept loads of my games alive. Edited by: Mukai |

Hey guys, my name is Scott, people call me Sythen (t'is my username). I'm currently living in Kildare and have been working with hammer for 4-5 years now. I spend the majority of my time in mapping and modding, and am currently trying to bring a rather large projet to life called Dark Ambience. Dark Ambience has been my "baby" for the last three years, and I really do need help getting it up.. So if there's anyone here that would wanna help. Give me a shout |

Hmm would you like a full soundtrack? If it is a story driven game then I would be very interested. The name is intriguing, I actually wrote a piece in the dark ambient genre about 3 weeks ago! I would be up for helping you man. What/who is hammer? Sorry for the more than likely noobish question but it is better to ask and find out then to go on not knowing! Glad to have you here mate! Oh I can do other things other then just composing by the way, I like to dabble in everything although composing would be my main focus. |

I live with a few mates that do the games development course, they seem to really enjoy so I'd say go for it. Dundalk is brilliant and the IT is great. I usually hate places that I live in for a while but I'm quite content in Dundalk! |

Some people had been asking me what my course was like. The course in carlow is exactly what I expected from it, but for what seems to be the majority of people there it was a case of, *shock horror* we have to work, not play games all day. It seems to be from what I've done so far anyway, a higher level programming course. Everything is linked into the actual programming and tech needed to make games. For first year they are teaching us C#. I heard from the lads ahead of me that they started out on java, but from my own looking there are major similarities between them. Next year it will be a start on C++ hopefully I'll be capable. As for the difficulty. If you are serious about the course and actually do the work it's not too much of a problem. Everything builds upon something previous. Of course their are moments where you'll just have to figure it out on your own, but hey, I enjoy a good challenge. First year has given me 5 subjects. Programming(pretty obvious), Graphics(This teaches us all about the different tech and techniques developers have used from original text stuff to future developments. We get practicals to implement the simpler stuff.), Applied Maths(This caught alot of people off guard. Of course there will be maths. Very usefull subject, I have used it in a number of projects.), System architecture(I don't like this subject. It's all about circuits and cpu processes, aswell as 8086 assembly language.). Lastly is what I consider the fun subject, Computer Games. This subject is the broadest. We used Gamemaker to bring a game from concept to working prototype and just finished up using QuArK to make Quake 2 levels. The main pirpose is to inform us of the practices of the industry, e.g Don't use copywrighted material. Apologies for that Über long post, but for any guys who are still in school deciding what to do. Hopefully that brief summary of my year might help you make up your mind. Quick note, Valve's Hammer is the level editor used mainly on source games. Arigato Gazimasu, |
