Before a lecture is received on how this is a waste of taxpayer dollars. Quick note.
The military does live fire shoots like this to make room for new ammo coming in because the ammo is old and cannot be sent back. It is called cycling. Since the older ammo cannot be just thrown away (obviously) or traded/recycled because of government contracts they have gun shoots to use those bullets up to boost morale, to practice, and to keep up with standards whether it is in the field or in the ocean.

Well, I didn't expect the day would come in which I would agree with the US Army...

It's not wasting taxpayers money. In Czech, we do this another way.
1. We give out a tender for public companies to destroy the old ammunition.
2. We choose the company who bribed us with the most.
3. We hand over the ammunition and money to the company.
4. Problem solved only for few millions. We don't care what happened with ammo. We payed for it's destruction.
5. There is a massive explosion on warehouse of private company, who obviously didn't destroy our old ammo, but tried to sell it further.
This actually happened not long ago, ruins of two warehouses are under police and military watch and nobody wants to go investigate what's still inside...
