DNA analysis of modern-day life forms is well enough to prove evolution, even if we didn't have any fossils in the geological record.

"This one looks like a crushed deformed foot with a smiling alligator head. Let's automatically assume its a transitional fossil without testing that theory, assume we're right, and then publish our findings while we ignore everything else contrary to what we want it to be." Seems legit.
