It carried 6 × twin SS-N-12 Sandbox (P-500 Bazalt) SSM launchers (12 missiles) for strikes against other ships. It had 20 Kamov Ka-25 or Kamov Ka-27 helicopters and 12 Yakovlev Yak-38M "Forger" VTOL subsonic fighter to fill various roles. The Forger was to be replaced by the Yakovlev Yak-141 "Freestyle" supersonic VTOL fighter but those plans ended with the Soviet Unioun.
