It had 20 Kamov Ka-25 or Kamov Ka-27 helicopters and 12 Yakovlev Yak-38M "Forger" VTOL subsonic fighter to fill various roles. The Forger was to be replaced by the Yakovlev Yak-141 "Freestyle" supersonic VTOL fighter but those plans ended with the Soviet Unioun.

Novorossiysk (1982–1993) Sold to Korea where it was scrapped.
Baku (1987–1991) Converted to a SATOBAR carrier for Indian Navy and renamed INS Vikramaditya. Excepted to enter service by 2014. Note: It's the most expansive conventional powered aircraft carrier to date (2.35 billion USD).
