Warlock's Gauntlet is a dynamic, top-down shooter (well, spell-caster) game, placing you - the player - in the role of a battlemage. The hero travels through maps filled with monsters, gaining experience and learning new spells. The game is similar to titles like Gauntlet or Diablo. The game features 25 random-generated levels which should amount to about three hours of gameplay; the player character can find over 60 distinct spells. There is no networked multiplayer, but the game includes a hot-seat two-player mode. The game available entirely for free - the code is open source and the assets are licensed CC.

We are more than happy to see our game on Desura, and this is not the end of development! We have spent few more months on a new version and now we are ready to share it with you!

But no need to worry! Warlock's Gauntlet is still a top-down spellcasting game, yet more fun! Let me quickly summarize new stuff:

  • open-world adventure -- now it's up to you to decide whether you want to hack and slash monsters as quickly as possible or maybe spend little time on improving firepower. If you're feeling lost, there's always a world map available.
  • updated graphics -- we added colourful lights, so now levels are even more diverse than before.
  • town -- as usual: you kill monsters, you get gold. But now when you get gold, you can spend it on more powerful spells and build a powerful character!
  • improved balance -- now you have to be careful when leveling up, because winning with single spell is no longer an option!

And if you are into pictures rather than words, this is what Warlock's Gauntlet has to offer!

I'd love to see something like "survival mode" and "duel mode vs AI warlock".

It seems the speed has been increased by a large factor, making the enemies move like they're extremely caffeinated. It's odd, to say the least.

There is no clear indication of where I should be going, so I kind of chose a direction at random.

You should add the old mode back as Arena more or some similar name- I liked WG because it was a coffeebreak game, not because it was an epic adventure saga. I know you might want to move in a different direction, but I liked it fine the way it was.

You could add a French translation. I could help you do it for free.

Hm... just curious: how would you envision the translated version? As a separate package (separate to download), or incorporated somehow into gamebase? Care to talk this over?

Translations are usually tiny (text based) so integrated into the download is probably easy enough

I'm not sure that top view is better than isometric, but however, pretty nice game, I spent 3 nights playing it.

What I liked:
- fun character control (I mean full keyboard)
- original game logic and spell restrictions

What I don't like:
- no general game map (if it's there, I didn't find it)
- not obvious obstacles on map, where character can't move(trees, plants, stons). Especially it bothering, when surrounded by monsters.
- strange behaviour when saving in boss area

- For the map, press F5 :P
- About the obstacles, I think this is true only in Frozen Wastelands, but I agree that there it's a bit difficult to move, expecially with lot of monsters around.
- I never saved in boss area, so I didn't notice any strange behaviour, can you explain what happens?

As i remember, F5 shows local area map, not global world map.
When you save in boss area, it might happen that current location map changes it's layout or boss appears in random position on this location. Maybe that was my own installation glitches.
