This formerly fairly-popular series originally began with F/A-18 Interceptor on the Amiga, but came onto various computers of the time with the first Jet Fighter. Are any of you guys familiar with it?

Jet Fighter: The Adventure
Unidentified contacts and possible contact with the Soviet Union, in addition to terrorists suddenly turn minor altercations into a full-on war between the US and the Los Angeles Revolutionary Army (LARA). And it's on the best pilots of the USA to neutralize this threat once and for all with F-14's, F/A-18's and F-16's.While it was fun to play and perform carrier landings, the game's realism bordered between semi-realism and arcade realism, and a rather disappointing final mission (Assisting a jailbreak with an F/A-18 as opposed to taking on the LARA's leader flying a MiG-29 with a F-14? Come on, man! How anticlimatic!)

Jet Fighter II: Advanced Tactical Fighter (And Operation: Lightning Storm)
Better graphics, with the F-22 and the canceled YF-23 Black Widow added to your plane roster against the LARA and other terrorist forces. There was also the aforementioned Operation: Lightning Storm Expansion disk, but I couldn't never get it to work on DOSBox after I downloaded it.

Jet Fighter III (NOTE: I tried to play it from a download, but it never worked properly)
Leaves the setting of California and goes to major hotspots 'round the globe, especially when you had the Expansion CD or Classic edition. With those you could go beyond Argentina and Alaska, to Cuba and Turkey, to North Korea and Japan. You had the F/A-18, the F-22 and the F-14, and it added Mavericks to the weapon mix this time around.

Jet Fighter: Full Burn (NOTE: I have seen gameplay footage, but not played it)
Using the same engine as Jet Fighter III, but ditches realism for arcade action. It now focuses on a conflict between NATO and Russia over Norwegian oil fields in a Wing Commander-esque story. You only have the F/A-18 and F-22 for NATO and only the fictional MiG-42 for the Russians.
Youtube.com (Gameplay footage, the guy failed the mission due to the recording software making the game lag)

Jet Fighter IV: Fortress America (NOTE: I saw an advert for it in a magazine, and gameplay footage - But never played it)
This one returns to the California setting with the F-22, F/A-18 and F-14, using the latter's LANTIRN technology to help establish the graphics' engine. But I hear people had problems running it on Win-XP.

Jetfighter V: Homeland Protector (NOTE: I saw footage, but never played this either)
Throws out the F-14 and F/A-18 in favor of the F-16, F-35 and F-22 against an anonymous force using stolen DPRK equipment. But I'm assuming by the next entry Homeland Protector was the beginning of the end of the series...

Jetfighter 2015 (NOTE: I am NOT going to check this one out)
What could possibly be the franchise killer uses ONLY a fictitious aircraft with gameplay that could be ID'd as a watered-down Ace Combat game. By the looks of it, it's like Global Star Software didn't care anymore.

It was made by the Polish dev City interactive (now CI Games also cannot into space) though, that explains how shitty it is, the last time I played it briefly before I uninstalled it even your missiles often self-detonate right in your face, damaging yourself.

Last year I tried IV on Win 7, but it didn't like Win 7. V was more sim-cade ish but I can't exactly remember since I only tried few minutes until I fell asleep.

JF III is a bit problematic to install/run even using DosBox if I recall, I wonder whether there's any Win95 version of it.

JFIII Platinum and Classic editions would fit the bill, this Christmas, I'll see if the latter can be up to snuff on an XP and DOSBox.

And BOY, I am THANKFUL to hear your two cents on 2015!

There also was a game called Red Jets by the same developer as JetFighter V.
It was... bad. Since the screens looks similar (looks same engine) I'm pretty sure JFV wasn't good either.

Then I'd recommend playing the older ones in that case... As I said, V could be potentially the beginning of the end of the Jetfighter series.

At least you've mentioned JF2015 so that I'm considering ripping the 3 playable plane models someday. The rest are more or less not worth it (if I recall, MiG 1.44, Berkut, C-5 and some random-shaped UCAV)

And lastly, I can NEVER find a copy nor actual download of Operation Lightning Storm for Jetfighter II.
