Atherian hamadryads are particular kinds of nymphs that live in spiritual symbiosis with their own tree/companion. Of ancient and probably godly origins, hamadryads are born as fruits of nature itself, trees that supposedly simply happen to give birth to living beings able to detach themselves from the trunk of the tree – even though they do not like it very much - still remaining spiritually bound to it.
Known for being the oldest creatures in the history of Atheria, their birth dating back to the beginning of times, hamadryads are the race that gets to live longer race. Stories are often heard of hamadryads having lived for thousands of years. These hamadryads are unfortunately rarely to be seen around. With the passing of the years hamadryads are less and less able to remain bound to their companion and millennium after millennium their need to reunite with their tree and the need to live with it as a single being becomes always more compelling.
There is an absolute bond between hamadryads and their tree and they always match genres. A female hamadryad is bound to a male tree and vice versa. If one of the two dies, the other one does the same straight after. Every time a hamadryad dies, the wind seems to be wailing a song of loss through the trees.
Although hamadryads are members of the Council of the Five and of the Council of the Six, their opinions are often not so well received. Their obsessive attention to ethical and legal quibbles often result in reunions lasting for weeks.
Serena, a young hamadryad from BlackMusk, was the only worthy hamadryad ever to enter history books. Thanks to her remarkable political skills, she managed to get the Council of the Five to accept the demons, "not because they are worthy, not because the prove to be wise enough, but because it is right".
Serena was killed by Isia at the moment of ascending the throne. Her tree companion became of stone and is still to be seen today at the centre of the BlackMusk wood, at the eastern border of Kalenda.
