The Star Wars Battlefront news is coming at us fast from Star Wars Celebration, from release date to gameplay details, screenshots, DLC, and more. Here's everything you need to know.

Posted by on

The Star Wars 2015 Celebration gave us a lot of news and content over the past few days, with a second teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and DICE's conference, in which a trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront has been revealed.

Since then, we know that the release date for Star Wars Battlefront is set for November 17, 2015 in North America and November 20, 2015 in the rest of the world, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. That's a month before Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters. Xbox One players get to play Star Wars Battlefront early via EA Access, according to Microsoft.

Perhaps one of the biggest reveals is that Star Wars Battlefront will not have a campaign. The original Battlefront from 2004 also lacked a narrative campaign, but one was introduced in its sequel Battlefront II. Instead of a story-driven campaign, Star Wars Battlefront features a series of missions, playable alone or via online and local co-op. Several playable hero units make appearances during these multiplayer battles, including Boba Fett and Darth Vader.

Screenshots ScreenshotsScreenshots Screenshots

Star Wars Battlefront is set on four planets, according to several screenshots from the game, which you can see above. These planets are Tatooine, Endor, Hoth, and Sullust.

On December 8, a month after launch, Star Wars Battlefront owners will receive a free add-on for the game that adds another planet to the location line-up. Called Battle of Jakku, the DLC is set on the desert planet that made its first appearance in teasers for The Force Awakens. Fans who pre-order Battlefront get the DLC a week early, on December 1.

While it touches on Original Trilogy events, Star Wars Battlefront won't feature Prequel Trilogy elements like characters, settings, or vehicles. Star Wars Battlefront won't feature space battles, either, as DICE wants to focus instead on "planetary battles."

Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed. It's good to know the franchise is back, but I'm worried the way EA/DICE decided to handle it. No Clone era, no space battles, 4 maps, no campaign... It seems like the game is far from finished and will follow the same policy as the Battlefield franchise (DLCs are coming!).

Like many others, I spent so many hours on the previous titles that my opinion is certainly biased. I can't deny it. But what makes Battlefront "Battlefront" is Battlefront: A different experience than most shooters, an impressive and unlimited background, great galactic conquests, space battles, both eras... All I see at the moment is a Battlefield game with Star Wars modifications. Then why don't you call it "Star Wars: Battlefield" instead. That'd makes more sense.

I will certainly buy the game, as I support the franchise. But I was hoping for something, let's say, "different". I hope they will include the Clone era later, I hope they will include space battles... And if they don't, I believe modders will!

Anyway, I don't know about you guys, but that second Star Wars teaser is awesome. The chills...

According to EA their frostbite engine is simply too *complex* for modders to handle.
There are no tools to make it simpler yet either.

However, if EA decided to stop being greedy with forcing people to buy DLC's, and focused on finding ways to make their engine more mod friendly, I'm certain they'd get a great deal of positive feedback.

But these days all they care about is money, so not likely.

"Too complex"

This makes me laugh every time, if they gave modders access to the tools the developers had they would be able to pump out superior content within months. Unfortunately it would show them up when it came to their DLC releases.

And that is a complete lie. How do you think the DICE staff creates their games? With raw code?

No, they must have a dev kit just like CryEngine 3 and Unreal Engine 4 has and it can impossibly be that much harder to use.

It's their statement, so take it up with them.

And that was for Battlefield 3, I can only imagine for further games using the engine.

more likely they know that modders can made better content than their DLC crap and for free, people today stills plays BF2 with mods, if they had released tools for bf3, bf4 and hardline would had no chance of exist or even compete with free mods

Don't buy the game if the specs don't Change... eA won't use the money from sales to help Star Wars in any way. They'll probably blow it on another stupid EA sports game that was the same as last years game except with newer players (but you can buy the old ones for only $30 more). The only thing that will stop EA is if everyone stops eating the b@llshit games they throw at us and ignoring their offers for overpriced dlc.

Based on the distinct lack of content, I suspect this game was built with a mixture of the mindset of Battlefield 1943 with limitations based on meeting requirements from the licencor (LucasArts/Disney) - that is, a side game to the main Battlefield experience, but using similar design elements from the main series with concept-appropriate modifications.

I also see one of two reasons why there are no space battles: 1. The audience the game will be marketed towards won't be interested in pure space battles. 2. The full version of the previously-mentioned IGN quote is merely PR speak for this:

"The last time we tried anything close to pure space combat (which is more like pure air battles from a design standpoint) in Battlefield 2142 - Titan mode - we ran into some MAJOR issues. The netcode caused odd behavior with the Titans and whatever was on them, they were the hardest thing to prevent exploiting of flaws (exploits)...in short, it was a pain, and we got a lot of flak for that. When we looked at doing space battles in Battlefront, we realized we still don't have the kind of experience to do space right, so instead of incur the wrath of Star Wars fans (and possibly our licencor), we're focusing on what we do best: planetary battles. It's not what everyone wants, but we think it's worse to make a game where half of it is utter garbage than making a game where everything just works - even if it's at the expense of cutting some core features." -John Doe, fictional character

Don't forget the time constraints. Not only do they more or less have to release close the movie to cash in on the brand. But also because otherwise EA doesn't have any competitor for CoD.

I think the biggest reason to exclude space combat is that they want to cater to every player. So the vehicle guys would not have anything to play with up there and not everyone likes flying etc.

I'm also wondering about the flight ceiling on the maps and what happens when you get to close to them. The BF games have shown that DICE still can't do them decently.

I think you answered your own question: EA doesn't have a small team like Rebellion - which likely has the nimbleness a larger company/dev team like DICE lacks.

I also hated the reason for why there is no space battle

they said something about "it doesn't make sense logistically"

They probably never even played the first two games, there was a reason why space battles was awesome, landing a transport gunship inside the enemy hanger was so satisfying, knowing that all your teammates will be assaulting the ship through that transport, and Free Radical's BF3 was suppose to give us space and land battles at the same time.

It really sucks that they don't have clone wars era, I don't think modders would be able to add in clone wars anyways because its EA and DICE, have battlefield or the latest need for speed games been modded? nope, frostbite engine is nice, but it prevents modding.

This is it guys, its literally gonna be battlefield with a star wars skin.

For me personally this stream yesterday was a big disappointment, they showed nothing and said almost nothing about it.

And they even tried to sell the first and 3rd person camera as new, everyone who knows battlefront knows that its already in the normal battlefront, but that's not the disappointment its more that they, with the info I have, they almost deleted the most features of battlefront itself. No Clone Wars, no Conquest, no space battles and not even a bit "story" like in bf2.

For me its already dead and if I want to support it or not depends on what they will show until its release, no gameplay trailer even after they said: 'hey look we show you gameplay' and what they showed us was a "trailer" with all battlefields(pun intended) which you can play on and that was it.

In the second Teaser the Stormtroopers didn't really look that awesome as in the first, but well we will see how it works with the "new" effects and that shiny lensflares.

I still remember hearing about Star Wars battlefront 3 many times over the years, each time I hoped it was true. Now... Not so much. Now I'm hoping that they either change their statements or back off like the oter companies. Star Wats battlefront is more than 4 f@cking levels and 4 sequels worth of DLC (at 4 times the price). I used to play SWBF2 and be happy with all the different levels, space battles and it's interesting perspective of a campaign. Now I am told none of that will be there... If they go through with this, I'm never buying anything EA again.

Me a huge fan boy of the Star Wars Battle fronts games 1-2. Played it on my PS2 at an early age for probably more than 3-4 years and thinking of getting Battlefront 2 on steam to do so again. However now that EA has reached their rotten hands on this Battlefront I am not going to touch it. Frankly EA is a money greedy company and everyone (I hope) knows it and ruins a lot of games and pours out a lot of crap and doesn't even allow modders to touch their engine or stuff to improve upon it. Frankly there have only been a good few games that they have ever made probably but now its mostly crap with overpriced DLCs and they are most likely are going to do the same thing to this. You buy the game and all DLCs will be priced more than they are worth.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+4 votes

EA doesn't allow it because then nobody would touch their DLC, ever, because modders can crank out far superior content in roughly 1/4 the time. Which makes EA look like ****, well EA all I have to say is, you make yourself look like **** already.

Wow i am actually really disappointed, as a person who loves the Star Wars franchise and the Battlefront games, this game has not really interested me, when I heard that they had announced a new Star Wars Battlefront game was in the making I was thrilled, but after watching the trailer and finding out more info about the game, i am very displeased, don't get me wrong I will still buy the game, but without the Clone Wars Era, Space Battle, Conquest Mode, or even a storyline, i can't say i will be into it as much as previous Battlefront games, and Battlefront 2 had a wide variety of maps, and by the looks of it so far this only has 5 maps, but no doubt there will be DLC in the future, which of course means you have to pay money, can't expect any less from EA, always about the moeny and not what the customers want.

I really hope they make a lot of changes and listen to what the customers want, but i don't have high hopes, I have a feeling this game is going to be a flop, which is upsetting because i am very fond of the Battlefront franchise, so far very disappointing EA and DICE, lift up your game, literally...

As long as there are people like you, who will buy their games even tho you know it will be in an alpha state on release, have no mod support, plus they will charge you another 50-100 euros for all kinds of DLC's that should already be in game on the release date, they will continue to **** us over every single time.

It's time to say enough and put our foot down. We need to stop buying their games, and when their money dries up, then we talk.

The funny thing is "according to several screenshots from the game", are from trailer...and we can read in last second of trailer "not actual gameplay".So screens are obviously fake.So I bet EA learn alot from Ubi and gameplay 'll be like WD ... so it's pretty sad

It's the rEApers for **** sake, what did you expect. I wouldn't be surprised if they released "Space Battles" DLC or some ****, plus another 10 DLC's just to milk more money from fools who buy this game. Hell that's why they don't want to release a dev kit for modders, because they know modders can make much better stuff free of charge.

Don't get me wrong i love Star Wars Universe, and i loved Battlefront games, but all this new Battlefront has is great graphics but less content then Battlefront 1 and 2 combined. I'm just gonna stick with Battlefront 2. Even tho it's 10 years old, people still play it and still making mods for it.

"4 maps"

Four planets revealed so far. That doesn't mean they will be the only planets in the game. There might be more. Or those'll be all we're going to get on release. Only time will tell.

As for "Frostbite is too complex." and "Modders are too stupid to use it." I can say only one thing: GIANT, SMELLY ********! Modders have the habit of cracking even tougher nuts than Frostbite. Besides, if it was so complex DICE wouldn't be able to make their BF games. The reason there is no released DevKit for Frostbite is that EA wants to sell their DLCs. Period.

Star War Battlefield HALFfronts and no mods, ha ha so not buying. Well maybe on one of those 90% sales when old EA games come crawling to Steam eventually. So I get this about 2020, not like I haven't got a ton of other games to beat or to buy on console, PC and mobile.

Nope can't be HYPED for a series that has was less content than the previous titles. They should of taken the word Battlefront out of the title out of respect for the other two great games. This version seems so watered down and hobbled, so lame lmao. Whos gonna buy this crap now and think they getting a good deal, lol.
