This mod gives people the option to play the game with alternate designs for the gnorcs, which are intended to be closer to both the PS1 designs and the early Reignited designs seen in concept art and early promo images. The Dragon Shores gnorcs have been given unique designs. And a separate pak also gives people the option to play the game with the censorship removed from the gnorcs.
8-11-20 Update: Edited Speedway UI gnorc icons to match the model edits.
This is not an attack on the Reignited designs, and it's not meant to be "superior" or an insult to Toys for Bob's designs or what have you. It's just an option for people who want it, as well as a way for me to add my own creative expression into a game that I deeply enjoy and means a lot to me.
The species of Big Gnorcs seen in Dark Hollow, Dry Canyon, Wizard Peak, Lofty Castle, and Dragon Shores have a brand new head. Sadly, their new eyes are unable to blink because they are so much bigger than the original eyes. However, I was able to make it work on the Dragon Shores gnorcs, I guess because they have a slightly different skeleton? I don't know.
Almost all gnorcs have had their teeth removed or reduced and their arms made pudgier and less muscular. Most of the little gnorcs have had their feet lengthened to look closer to the silhouette of the PS1 gnorcs. Toys for Bob have said in an interview for Crash 4 that matching the silhouette of Crash's PS1 model is important to them, and that's just how I feel about the PS1 gnorcs!
In most cases, the gnorcs' colors have been brightened. Some gnorcs have been recolored yellow, as there were yellow gnorcs in the Peace Keepers world in the PS1 version.
The enemies in Gnorc Cove have been colored pinkish tan and had their heads replaced with the head of Marco the Balloonist in order to match the PS1 models.
I did not change any of the gnorcs in the Beast Makers world (except in Wild Flight) because I really like their Reignited designs.
Umodel messed up the skeletons of the Artisans gnorc goons, so I had to remove the weights from their messed up facial bones, meaning they can't blink or move their eyes. If anyone know of a better way to extract models from Reignited, please let me know. I tried Noesis, but it oriented all the bones backwards.
The gnorcs in Dragon Shores have received a drastic overhaul. I really like how all the dragon daddies in Reignited were made unique, so I thought it would be cool to apply that same design philosophy to the gnorc NPCs. If you use this mod in conjunction with my Omniswapper mod, as of its 8-9-20 update, the Omniswapper will apply additional changes to the Dragon Shores gnorcs: it changes the sizes of some gnorcs, and it changes the design of Showman Gnick into something different from Gatekeeper Gniles.
Another pak, separate from the rest of the mod (meaning you can choose not to include it), removes the following censorship:
-Dark Hollow sword gnorcs now have blood on the tips of their swords. In the PS1 version, the tips of their swords had red vertex color. Insomniac often used vertex color to add detail without having to add additional textures, and in this instance, I would argue that the implication of the tip of a sword being red is obviously that it's covered in blood. One could argue the sword was simply meant to be "red hot," but, to me, it seems pretty different from the other hot metal in the game. Anyways, the old graphics were more abstract, so they will always be open to different people's interpretation. And I did try to draw it as "cartoony" blood in keeping with the tone and visual style of Spyro.
-The Army Gnorcs in the Peace Keepers homeworld now have a visible buttcracks. Their Reignited model had individual buttcheeks sculpted into it already, which makes me theorize that Toys for Bob may have originally drawn a buttcrack texture in there before having it removed due to either self-censorship or because of the ESRB.
-Cleavage has been added back to the Red Dress Ladies in Cliff Town and Doctor Shemp's level.
-The Gnorc Adiers in Haunted Towers and the Gnorc Survivalists in Twilight Harbour now throw grenades. The grenades are from a free model I found online, though I did try to squash them and brighten up the colors a bit to seem "cartoonier."
-The Gnorc Commandos and Machine Gunners in Twilight Harbor now shoot bullets instead of goo. The visible goo has been removed from their guns, as well as the tubing that suggested liquid was being pumped into the barrels. The main purple splatter effect has been removed. However, I couldn't figure out how remove the purple splash when the bullets are fired or hit a target. Later on, I might learn how to hex edit the uasset files and at least change the color from purple to orange or something. If I ever do that, I'll update this mod.
I didn't change the guns' models or sound effects to be more realistic because I personally agree with Toys for Bob on the cartoonier designs suiting Spyro better, as they said in their art book. I only disagree on the goo-shooting aspect of the designs.
The purple goo stains on the Machine Gunners' hats have been changed into bloodstains. This isn't actually in the PS1 games, but considering the PS1 Dark Hollow gnorcs had bloodstained swords, I personally think it fits.
This is a big mod, so please let me know if any mistakes slipped past me. I worked hard on this and I hope people enjoy it!
oh my god! thank you so much twilight harbor was ruined for me but you just fixed that! Thank you!!!!
Aww, thanks! Sorry there's still the purple impact splash, though. I'll have to learn to hex edit so I can change its color eventually. Also still need to restore the guns in Scorch but those enemies weren't gnorcs so I didn't do it for this mod...
Thats okay take your time I love that twilight harbor s actually threatening now lol I used to charge through this level cause i absolutely hate the goo guns
The fact people take this an "attack" is really pathetic, especially since the Spyro Trilogy isn't even Toys for Bob's original creation, thanks for the option. These are imo much better than the ugly gnorcs we got. And fixes the censorship in Twilight Harbour. Edit: I seriously dunno how people can look at your mods and be offended in comparison to the Reignited designs, they are overall much better, Reignited fanboys are terrible, they hate the original source material and have no respect for Insomniac's original vision. Just cause its a remake does not mean it HAS to be ugly.
Now this is the Spyro 1 I remember. Thank **** for modding cause this was starting to get irritating. Especially since they bended the knee for ratings, kids these days don't play platformers they could've easily kept everything in.
You are beyond amazing. Thank you

I installed them into the paks folder but nothing happened. Do I need to start a new game?
I'm also in this same boat...starting a new game doesn't seem to have helped, and I can't think of anywhere else it'd go.
These classic gnorcs are so cute, I really want to play with them..!
Put them into paks folder but nothing works. Not even renaming them to fit in line with other mods that do work.
You seriously should have been lead developer of this trilogy. TFB had too many inferior, creative liberties added to a trilogy so beloved because it is what it is. It felt so wrong that they weren't the creators and changed so much.
