Shallow Space is a 3D Real Time Strategy game inspired by Nexus: The Jupiter incident and Homeworld. Shallow Space focuses on organised mass RTS space combat in a fully 3D environment. Ships in Shallow Space are nearly always grouped into Flotillas and Wings, and orders issued to these structures cascade to the subordinate members. Rather than stressing out clicking on the units or dragging selection boxes during the heat of battle, standing orders are issued in advance leaving you to zoom around, activating abilities and arranging support and reinforcements. Should the tide turn in battle traditional control is still available.
So if you're playing the demo and you see a fire trail coming from a ship as shown here (inside the Red box) what's happened is the ships shield is depleted and the ship has sustained a hit to one of it's turrets taking it out.
A little further down the track I'll introduce 'Precise' weaponry which do minimal hull/shield damage but are designed to take out weapons and engines in this way.
That's perhaps the coolest thing about this fully 3D, simulated projectiles thing - anything could happen! (well, pink elephants excluded of course...)
whats the bug? that its going just up?
The 'bug' is that these weapons are told to target centre of mass, as the shots are connecting with the turrets the damage is passed through them resulting in them being disabled.
This isn't behaviour that I had planned so it's a bug, I'm going to leave it though - adds to the realism very cool!
it doesnt really seem like a bug though. The turret has health, shots fired at the mass end up hitting the turret instead because they collide with the turret instead of the actual ship.
it wasnt planned but that doesnt make it a bug. if anything it would make it an unplanned feature, which it is since you decided to keep it in lol.
but its not a bug lol
Yes I agree, but 'Cool Unplanned Feature' doesn't quite have the same ring to it now does it... lol
I'm not the first to exaggerate via. artistic license and I certainly won't be the last!
Cheers bud!
lol i like the sound of cool unplanned feature over bug lol. Bug implies i would be looking at something broken like ships comming out with odd textures or inverted colors, and cool bug seems like i would be looking at like. ships getting hit by one shot and then just pinging off into the distance and bouncing around the map... that would be hilariously cool lol
its true though. exaggeration is fun to do sometimes lol.
Haha! Oh you reminded me of something! Taking me back to the start of the project now - here's something matching that exact description Indiedb.com ;)
lol now thats a funny bug, weird i was just chosing a random type of bug lol. and yet it happend already.
looking back on it though its a funny bug but not a cool but. i guess a cool bug would be like if the ship was finished and its texture was messed up but it looked like some awsome ba ship of destruction lol.
seriously though that was funny that was like the first part of this kinda lol Youtube.com
