Description

Explore ancient Scandinavian mountains as a young Norse woman, use your parkour skills to find a way home, and discover the mystery behind a forgotten myth scrawled all over the mountain range.

History

The game will include three chapters:

- First chapter ... in development (spring 2024).

- Second chapter ... TBD.

- Third chapter ... TBD.

Chapters will not be sold separately, they will be added to the main game instead.

Once purchased, all three chapters will be made available without further payment on their release. The game's price will slightly increase with each new chapter released.

The game is currently in Early Access available on Steam and other stores. The Early Access will stop with the release of the first chapter.

Project Utgardr is a first-person parkour platform adventure inspired by Norse and pre-Viking culture.

Project Utgardr started at the beginning of January 2022, as a demo project regarding the Nordic mythology, with some parkour and puzzle mechanics.

Everything also thanks to the help produced in a previous project assembled with other students of AIV (Italian Videogames Academy), Project Aethia.

Near the end of January, it was submitted to various game jams on Itch.io and then the Pre-Alpha started concurrently with the publication on the main online stores, like Steam, Itch.io, Game Jolt...

Using the first-person to get more immersion, the game it's based mostly on titles like Mirror's Edge, Dying Light and Downward for the parkour part. And on Shadow of the Colossus for the adventurous and mysterious parts.

The puzzle solving and story elements, instead, consist of utilising the Norse or Viking cult points, as runes, various types of altars and objects like the runestones, to tell about this civilization and route the character along the path.

The game story is centered on the adventure of Thyra, a young woman that, trapped inside the mountains of her homeland in old Scandinavia, will have to find a way home by searching the correct path, disclosing old Norse objects and solve ancient puzzles of that culture.

The game has been on Kickstarter in October 2022, without reaching its goal. For this reason its release date received a delay.

The game has been released in Early Access on Steam on February 3, 2023 discounted. The price is 9,99$.

It is powered by the Unreal Engine.

About the game.

Adventuring amidst the mountains of her homeland in old Scandinavia, Thyra finds a fissure that mysteriously appeared on a cliff face, allowing her into a previously hidden passage that crumbles behind her as she passes through it.

Thyra, now trapped in uncharted territory and searching for a way home, quickly gets her bearings in the arduous environment using her climbing abilities, discovering timeworn engravings and weathered altars to perform rituals at.

Coming across an ancient, forgotten tale, Thyra discovers her role in it and follows its fragments to reveal its secret.
