It seems to be the natural progression of any independent game developer.

Go through a mid-life crisis, decide you want to make games for a living, spent countless hours on what others see as a hobby, lose your job, lose your girlfriend, lose your hair, boil ramen in a pot of your own tears, spend more countless hours, lose more hair (and less girlfriends), more countless hours, and publish on Steam.

Okay, so maybe the lead-up to that last part is a little bit different for everyone. But the point is, getting your game on Steam is like the Golden Goose for independent game developers. You instantly have access to millions of gamers worldwide in the largest digital distribution platform for games in the known universe.

So yeah, it’s kind of a big deal.

This is why we are putting Produce Wars up on Steam Greenlight and encouraging everyone to visit the page and give us an honest upvote (because, the game is just so damn awesome that a downvote would be lying). Not only are we trying to make it as independent developers – where access to this marketplace would almost entirely make that possible – but we also want to get as much feedback on the game as possible so that we can improve the experience for the player, regardless of how many copies we sell.

For you faithful XBOX followers, worry not. Produce Wars is still slated for release on XBOX Live Indie Games very soon. In fact, the game will appear on XBLIG first, and will actually be cheaper than any version that would sell on Steam/PC. The caveat is that the XBOX version is restricted by the XNA framework somewhat, and level expansion packs would likely come as separate downloads.

I don’t want to promise anything, but Produce Wars could be in peer review as early as next week.
