Heaven's Hitman is Back... With a Vengeance. Evil has returned! Demonic powers are manifesting themselves as a myriad of dark creatures, fighting over the fates of imprisoned souls caught in Purgatory. Once again, it is up to Daniel Garner, in the unenviable position of being the Curse of Darkness and the Toy of Light, to fight his way past hordes of demons and fiends.

In the ocean of CoD wannabe shooters Painkiller HD stands out, it's Painkiller with some new content.
The name is creative (Hell & Damnation = HD) and the fact that they emulated the whole game on another engine is quite impressive!
Now, why don't we have all levels from Battle Out Of Hell and standard game in one HD remix? Because you wanna release them as DLC, a bad idea to begin with. I hate DLCs!
Now tell me why in all of hell would you weaken my favorite weapon in the whole game, the Painkiller by half?! Not only is it weaker, but when I shoot the blade (primary + secondary fire) it is slower than it used to be! Why?!
There are no more Havok Physics, no more glitching for me.
But overall this is a good and impressive remake! The highlights are the new graphics, multiplayer (co-op), some new tunes and a new story that is suggesting a sequel.
And Daniel now sounds like Duke Nukem (which I thought was awesome), and what happened to Eve?

Since now the game is on Unreal engine, a modding support would be beyond great! Make it happen guys, please!

The story is complete bonkers reboot-sequel type of ******** with poor writing and horrid voice acting. The Grim Reaper is just annoying more than anything.
Aside from improved and/or redesigned characters and weapons the entire levels are simply copy and pasted from the original game to the new engine. Only change in levels are occasional new enemies that sometimes don't even fit in (not like the original game was that consistant to begin with, but still) and make the playthrough only more tedious.
The game doesn't even have the red effect when taking damage, so sometimes you can't tell if something hurts you or not.
Not only that, but at the same time the game is hadly playable due to FPS drop on my Win7 (a better computer than the one that could run originl PK with actually better graphics), even on lowest settings which make it look worse than original anyway, making the remake pointless.
Some of the reworked weapons lack original detail and animations, and some, like Boltgun, have slower reload animations, making them harder to use.
Some of the original scripted sequences (traps etc) which were based on Havok physics now come out as completely embarassing/amusing.
Last but not least, there is no possibility to save the game at free will and you have to depend on autosaves, I have no idea how could this still be possible in a 2012 game.
And half of the game's content is included in DLCs.

Fun gameplay. Good pacing.
Good weapon variety. Good enemy variety. Good level variety.

The difficulty is challenging and satisfying.

I dont bother with the story, its just there to provide context, can just be ignored.

2 complaints:
1) Collecting the souls that enemies drop can get tedious. You need to stop and wait for the souls to actually appear.
2) Demon mode can get wasted.
